Just looked out the office window to see 2 Spitfires and 2 Harriers in box formation displaying over Filton.
A Rolls-Royce function by any chance, anybody know anymore?
cheers

I stand corrected, it was to celebrate 37 years of the Pegasus engine and the handing over of the last one from RR to the RAF.
I think the C130 was acting as a photoship, but can’t confim it.
Ken,
We’re practically neighbours!
cheers

…although I was treated as an anorak for the rest of the afternoon after running across the office to get a better view 😀 .
Kilvy, they were probably just as concerned that no risk assessment had been carried out for your ‘spotters sprint’ 😀 😀

…and of course the recent useage of C-130’s dropping HUGE bombs in Afghanistan to collapse Al Quaeda caves…

The Rhodesian who showed me the tape called em “B130’s”
Oddly enough as I’m sat here typing this my house just got buzzed by an EC130.. I think they’re on to me… 😮

Well, not quite 100% inaccurate – during the Falklands War an Argie Hercules crew rolled bombs out of the rear door onto some of the British Task Force if I remember correctly!! 🙂
cheers

I’ve also seen a video filmed inside a C130 of a Rhodesian Air Force crew destroying mud huts by throwing landmines out the back door…

It’s just been on Points West.
It was a special flypast, 2 x Spitfire, SHAR and a GR7 escorted by …… wait for it……a Hercules Bomber! Why is local telly always so crap? 🙂
It was to mark 30 years of the Pegasus engine.

I noticed the ‘Hercules bomber’ voiceover !!!
When Points West were covering the loss of the RAF Hercules in Iraq, they had a moody, sunset photo of a Herk in the background.
Except it was cleary a US Marines KC-130 – with refuelling pods on the outer pylons.
I kept meaning to write in and point it out – you would think that as they are on Lyneham’s doorstep, they would have an archive photo of an RAF Herk ???
Ken
PS- Not only were we standing near one another at Yeovilton, you only live just up the road from me !!!

Yep, got me there! 🙂
It’s just a bit annoying when we couldn’t move around here for TV crews after the terrible crash that claimed XV179 and her crew, then you get that kind of lazy journalism this evening. Just seem a bit disrespectful, don’t know why.
The formation was quite impressive though, although I was treated as an anorak for the rest of the afternoon after running across the office to get a better view 😀 .
