when was the last time a Spitfire fired its guns?. what would be the chances of hearing and seeing this type of thing again?, or even any WW2 era fighter.
wouldn`t it be a fantastic sight if a Spit armed even with blanks could let rip with all the spent cases dropping down behind in proper fashion.

The Israeli Me-109 were bought from Checoslovakia, so I believe they were “real” Me 109 and not Bouchons
Not ‘real’ Me-109’s but the Czech S-199 – a development with a Jumo 211F engine and props from a Heinkel He-111.
So, not Buchons (RR Merlin), but not real Me-109’s (DB 605) either….

F.M. – My point was an Airforce rather than the RAF. Anger was surely implied. 🙂
I have today been re-uniting a Burmese Spitfire pilot with his former operational mount and have his log book in front of me.
23 May 1957. Seafire XV UB405. Ground Attacks.
Not unconnected I am sure with his second flight of the day:-
23 May 1957. Vampire 504. Japanese Premier Escort.
Reading back from there I note:-
3 December 1956. Spitfire UB425. Strike – Minlwin.
This is the recent ARCo rebuild SL633, now flying in the USA.
Mark.

…but the question was – “when was the last time a Spitfire fired its guns?”.
The first sentence of the first post says ‘fired its guns’ – but the thread title says ‘last time in anger‘
A bit pedantic I know – but there is a difference.
“In anger” surely means in combat – rather than just a test firing or blanks etc.

Last Spitfire Engagement
The last time a Spitfire went into battle action with the RAF was 1 January 1951
in a sortie of 4 Spitfire XVIII s from 60 Sqn in a strike against a ground target near Kota Tingii Malaya. The flight leader was Group Captain Wilfred Smith. This may have been a bombing raid, I don’t know, but it seems likely that there would have been some gunfire involved.

that P40 sounded and looked great. it took on another face when firing its guns. its great to see them flying at airshows and alike but after all they are war machines, its almost like seeing a Tiger in a zoo.

Let’s not forget Spitfire on Spitfire action with regards to the RAF, Isreali Air Force and Egytian Air force  Proof that even advanced Spits could be outdone by the earlier
Also the only conflict where RAF pilots flew Bf-109’s against an enemy flying spitfires.

Well, P40… but it made me watch the 2004 WoW with the Breightlings and Ray H 🙂

The last hot action by Spitfires probably took place with the Egyptian forces during the Suez Crisis in early November 1956.

I would think Seafire XV’s on COIN operations in Northern Burma c.1956.
