Can anyone identify whereabouts on a Spitfire I this warning plate comes from, or what it refers to?
Have shown it to a few Spitfire folk, including our own Mark12, and drawn a blank thus far..
Brass plate, soldered onto whatever it was that it came from! No part numbers.

No, it was not one of the features photographed for the boo….!:)
Unfortunately, we couldn’t have images of everything and the coverage was limited through available space – although the plate in question (as per scan) actually is from P9374 and came to me from a source in France a matter of weeks ago. I must admit, it baffled me initially but makes sense now although I cannot recall seeing it when I crawled around P9374 a few times. However, I know that c.n. is far more familiar with P9374 than most around here!;)
Thanks for your input, Mr N.

Yes I do have pictures of new and old ones, and P9374 does have them fitted are there not any pictures in THE BOOK?. I would upload pictures but I don’t seem to be able to load them on my computer.

Thanks guys that’s very informative. Does anyone have a picture of the compensator?
Do the current batch of Spitfires I have them fitted? They must be as incredibly rare as the early hand pump itself.

This belongs to the undercarriage spring assistors for the early hand pump u/c and the springs fit I the undercarriage bay connected to frame5 and the horn on the leg. The compensators are very strong and special tools are required to keep them compressed while removing them.

Unfortuately it’s the wrong sort of plate from which to start a rebuild project 😉
