A friend had this photo that his father got at the end of the war from the Polish pilots of either 317 or 308 Squadron (Other photos show birds in those markings)
That it’s an all silver IXe or XVIe make it a bit unique I think, and that it appears to have a WingCo’s pennant under the cockpit also adds to the mystery. Anyone have any ideas on a serial and codes for this particular Spit, or even better another photo of it?

I would say a MkIXC (going by the cannon stubs) perhaps? Sans cannons – maybe a hack?
I’d go along with that idea, especially as it isn’t in camouflage.
