Spitfire identity?

Spitfire VIII, YB-J of 17 Squadron, where and when? I do not think it is MT719. What is painted on the engine cowling?

Previous photo taken at Chettinad near Karaikudi in Southern India which was used as a base for Spitfires and Hurricanes during WWII. It is believed that the YB-J shown is a replacement for MT719 which was retired to become a training aircraft, T17, with the Indian Air Force.
