BBC mid-day main news has just had a report on the new exhibition of WWII equipment in St James’ park. It was being opened by Prince Charles and all part of the commemoration of the end of WWII.
The camera panned across a very shiny and pristine grey/green Spitfire carrying the 74 Squadron codes 4D-V and and a serial that looked like it ended in **885.
If an original it was new one on me. It may of course be a high quality GRP replica.
Does anybody have the story on this one?

To the average person, looking at it from a distance, it might have looked as though she was pole-mounted, perhaps…

Positioned with her tail up in one of the pics in Spitfire – The History in 603 Sqdn markings. I’m assuming this is pictured at Turnhouse?
Elevating the tail wheel onto four ‘breeze’ blocks is hardly putting it on a pole.

RW393 looks an awful lot better than she did when I last saw her sitting on a pole at Turnhouse. Definitely a good decision to take her under cover.
A pole? I don’t think so.
Possibly confusion with the GRP replica replacement?

Four Naval Museums
What four naval museums? I can only think of two, the Fleet Air Arm Museum and HMS Belfast
The four naval museums are, The Royal Naval Museum, The Royal Naval Submarine Museum, The Royal Marines Museum and the Fleet Air Arm Museum, HMS Belfast is part of the Imperial War Museum as is Duxford and the Cabinet War Rooms.

Well here is RW393 at Cosford in August 2000 and already fitted with quality glazing.
Since then it has been in store at RAF Stafford.
