If you haven’t seen this video of a low pass of a spitfire. You’ll love it. Enjoy.

T’was indeed Ray doing the “driving” in his trusty steed,MH434 and it was Alain De Cadanet who had the sh1tes put up him:D.
Rumour had it that the producer kept going for more takes because he reckoned Ray wasn’t getting ‘434 low enough so on that pass he must have thought I’ll give ’em low, save the Duxford grass cutters a job and old De Cadanet a few quid at the barbers while I’m at it.
Seriously though,it really is a great testament to Ray’s superb skills and his full confidence in MH434 to do what he wanted just when he wanted her to do it.
Mark
That rumour is entirely untrue, it wasn’t staged at all, Ray was taking off for a display elsewhere and i thought it would be a good idea to film Alain at the end of the runway as he took off, the rest is history!

There you go! Hope you enjoy it, it’s a great book and goes into just some of the detail of how to make an aviation epic!
While we’re on the subject of low-level Spitfire flypasts, there’s a nice one of PL965 floating around on YouTube, taken at Duxford…

There was a book, cunningly titled How They Made Piece of Cake, by Herbie Knott and Robert Eagle. If you can pick it up, it’s absolutely fantastic. The images alone make your mouth water!

I remember the scene from the original series but was there ever a behind the scenes bit or coverage of how it was done, the planning etc, that I would love to see almost as much as the actual flight.

The Piece of Cake stunt was truly something. They’d do it with CGI these days…
