Stopped by Norwegian Airforce Museum @ Gardermoen this weekend and to my surprise found replica MH350 in bits and pieces there. It has been moved from the museum in Oslo. No idea what they’re gonna do with her. Probably get her in shape again and put her up again in static condition.
We were alone in the museum, so we took the time to be a bit naughty, meaning touching and feeling up the other Spitfire they got as well as being a bit naughty to MH350 as well. Closest I’ve been to a Spitfire ever, that’s for sure! Great musem too, almost no “keep away” ropes or anything. Walk freely and have fun. Don’t worry, we left the Spitfires in perfect condition!

I think this is the one you’re referring to
Yes. My father used to know the guy. He worked on it for 2 decades or something. And it happened like you say.
One brief test-hop, but the resulting landing did some damage and the plane’s been grounded since.
Exactly like you say. Very sad thing. He spent two decades on it. I heard that it was only a taxi-test and for some reason he put a bit too much throttle on it and it caught him by surprise. However, I heard that story when I was just a kid. I think even saw some footage of it long ago.
Any idea what the (partial) airframe to the right of the Spit replica is in the last shot? Looks vaguely German perhaps?

This one?
I have no idea. I looked at it for ages and I could not make up my mind. First it looked like an FW190, then it looked like a Hurricane wing and then it looked like a bomber of some kind. Then I just gave up and figured I would ask you guys! Thanks for reminding me about it!

Nice pics, I have to say that the skin texture etc. is pretty convincing; it must take a fair bit of work to get one of those together and looking proper.

It is a GRP replica.
The real MH350 was transferred from Gardermoen some years ago and is now located at Bodo.

I know of one guy who buildt his own Spitfire in a smaller scale using the Spitfire as outlines for his Spitfire.
I think this is the one you’re referring to:

Yes I looked at the inside shot I did and it looks weird. However, the production list states it’s in Oslo and it’s this one, if they haven’t copied it meaning the original is still there somewhere, not on exhibit. Meaning this museum just got a copy version
Update:
What they did was probably to copy this one, send the original to Bodø and leave this hanging from the roof.
Huge letdown. Feel free to change the title to “replica”. The original is indeed at Bodø

There is a huge amount of GRP on the interior pic, and all the access panels/fastners look as though they are moulded.

Not that I was aware of. If it is it’s brand new info to me. But hey, I’m not an expert at all. I just assumed it was the real thing.
The Spitfire is talked about in the bok “2nd TAF Spitfire ML407” and it doesn’t say anything about it being a replica. There’s even a picture of Major Rosland infront of it (then on wheels) in the museum. I know of one guy who buildt his own Spitfire in a smaller scale using the Spitfire as outlines for his Spitfire.

Way too big. Sorry.
I linked them instead for now. Your browser will automatically fit them nicely to your screen.
