Spitfire MH434 at Duxford today (Tuesday 25th)

Went to Duxford again today (twice in two weeks, using up “garden leave” before starting new job next week). MH434 in the capable hands of Ray Hanna put on a short display. Not a lot else going on. Good excuse to post more spitfire pictures however, from todays visit!

Haven’t seen the mag but have followed along with the build and history of Richard Rawles model. Is this the one in RCMW? It’s very popular among the ML407 supporters group.

Allan

That’s the one.

I once did a fun-fighter two-seat Spitfire some years ago – came to grief by flying through the trees 🙁

I know it’s only a little thing, but the roundels on her still bug me somewhat. How difficult would it be to correct them? Surely a quick visit from Vintage Fabrics would rectify the inaccuracy. (Yes i know it has been covered before, But surely it wouldn’t be that troublesome)

Quite straight forward really, just requires the will to instigate the job. It could easily be done in a weekend.

Allan – you’ll have seen the most recent RCMW with the 1/3 scale model of ML407 in it then? 😉

Hi Allan,
Glad you liked them. There are thousands of pics. There have been quite a few good books on Spits in bits over the years as well.

I’d suggest you start a thread asking for the areas you’d want to see; I’m sure you’ll get some responses – I’ll try and see what I’ve got too!

Cheers

MH434 book.

It’s still a ‘live’ project, but it has had to slip down the priority list a bit, so it’s in a holding pattern. 😉 I’ve got all the offers in a folder, so there will be a call from the Spanish Inquisition when you least expect it. “No! No! Not the comfy chair!”

Nothing has been eliminated from consideration either, and a few folks have kindly sent scans, info & pics already. Feel free to gather what you might contribute, if you’d like to be ‘in.’

Cheers

No, but he’s done most, if not all of the DX resident Spitfires and more

Not as many as you think

http://www.vintagefabrics.co.uk/vf_work.html

I’d say that was a fair amount!
Anyway, as i have said it’s only a ‘niggle’ and I feel privilaged everytime i see 434 fly, at least she is airworthy and continuing to satisfy our Spitfire hunger!

JDK

About a certain book about a certain Spitfire!! Can you give us an update on how things are progressing ?How far away is it to be completed?

We’d love to know!

The 434 book!

I totally forgot! 😮

I even seem to recall I offered to help. 😮 😮

Well I guess it’s too late now.

But if there is anything…

Great shots all!

Good to see the master taking 434 for a workout. 🙂

As much as I liked the Breitling Fighters, it will be nice to see 434 doing hopefully more solo slots again.

I really would love to see her at OW , maybe an evening show, as I always loved that (John Dibbs?) shot of her at OW in the hands of Mark taken several years ago.

It would be nice to see the roundels fixed but it’s not really to much of an issue I guess.

On the subject of authenticity, I wonder if she will ever get the non tropical air filter and early exhausts like she had in 1943? I recall someone mentioning here that when Mark saw the Hornchurch shot, he said that they’d hopefully get here like that again.

Cheers

The BBMF eventually tidied up P7350’s roundels – she looks the business now!

Might have to paint my replica in a similar scheme eventually…!!

No, but he’s done most, if not all of the DX resident Spitfires and more, and a grand job he does too.
To be fair it doesn’t matter who does it, it’s just niggling me.

…. Actually to be totally honest, i’m not too fussed, at least she is flying, that’s the main thing.

Is Clive the only person who can paint a Spitfire these days then?

She (MH434) is just a beauty…fun to see the pics 4,000 miles away from DX and feel like I was right there, only 24 hours later.

Still have problems with the focusing, but I am starting to work my way around it.

😀 I think they need to get the T-Cut out and polish out the area where the Breitling Fighters badge went. 😀
