Hi,
my name is Anders and I´m from Sweden. This autumn/winter I will start building a Spitfire MK XIVc, scale 1/5 RC plane.
Unfortunately, the drawings don´t show the radiators on all views, only side view. So, it’s hard to get the full size for the radiator and their positions on the wing.
So please, where can I find the radiator size…
I have also search the internet for the size on the spinner, the one on the drawing seams to short, but I don´t know.
I read somewhere that the length is 32” (813mm) and Ø27” (Ø686mm). I will equip my model with a 5-blade prop as the original plane,
(even though I will be portrayed as a fool in RC circuits, you can never ever use 5-blade!!!….), so it would be nice to have
a spinner in the right size as well.
I have tried to get some answers from the kit designer, but it´s like talking to a stone.
So, hopefully I can get some help from you experts here.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks John, for the dimensions. And for the Airfix proposal 🙂 back to the begining, I had over 50 planes hanging from the roof when I was 8- 15 years old, my mom hated them, dust collectors :p

TonyT;
I had a look at your Flickr page with the Mk XIX Spitfire. Nice pictures. Very clean, or is that just the aircraft ?? And hangar ! I couldn’t find a drop of oil anywhere.
You don’t happen to have any high-res Merlin pictures do you, especially a carburetor for a 2-stage Merlin? That’s likely my next reverse engineer and print item. I do have some pics, but always searching for more.
Thank you, Tom Kay.

The dimensions of the Spinner for model purposes are 32″ long and 28″ diameter and a rough measurement for the radiator width is 28″ across the flat sides. For visual and dimensional accuracy buy yourself an Airfix 1/48th Spitfire 19 which to most purposes is an identical airframe to the Mk 14. This is a very accurate kit.

I will have a look for you, in the meantime I do have a few uploaded images.
these are Mk 14 drawings out of the books
and these are photos of the Mk19 including the radiators, the boat fairings (radiator cowls) and 5 bladed spinner etc
http://s536.photobucket.com/user/taylortony/library/Spitfire%20MKx1x?sort=3&page=1
and large images uploaded for modellers like yourself, as I felt there was a need to do this for the modelling community etc…

in there you will find bigger versions of the stuff I have uploaded like this, that is believed to be the 14 wing and shows the radiator on it.
