I was sad to see this aircraft leave Southern Ontario… saw it fairly regularly on the Niagara Peninsula and CWH events. Glad to hear the pilot is not too bad off.

Looking at that photograph, apart from the cannon housing, the port side looks fairly ok to me..

Not so sure about the starboard side though!!

That must have been a very hairy moment to live through especially as it seems the landing site was strewn with obstacles. Not a situation I would have wanted to face.

Steve

Just to please Moggy…

From the map and the pictures it looks as though he was presented with a pretty obstacle-strewn area to rejoin terra firma in. MK912 may have come out of it somewhat bent, but it looks as though DG did a decent job in avoiding the hairiest obstacles.

Nice…

Lighten up, we are discussing the comments section of the Daily Mail website here. Those posters are all vying for some anonymous green thumbs, and are therefore trying to harvest peer approval, rather than to incite stirring debate.

I can be patient with anybody that isn’t up to speed on something. For one thing, it is helpful if you are unsure of things yourself. For example, I had forgotten some of the details of the Blenheim that crashed onto the golf course. But, if I can find out this information then anybody can. I refuse to tolerate people that could have become more knowledgeable but didn’t bother and have some form of pride in the fact. You are lucky if you have never been told to ‘wake up’ by some individual on the internet who hides their anti-intellectual stance behind snide cynicism.

I’m not suggesting we do anything, they deserve a voice (etc etc…). However, I prefer not to be reminded of their existence!

What would you do with them meddle? All these ‘stupid’ people I mean. It’s all context isn’t it. Do you think others haven’t overheard a conversation you’ve had and thought ‘what an idiot!’. Of course. We are all stupid in our own little ways. Maybe a bit more tolerance would go a long way.

Stupid people have always existed. It is unfortunate that the Internet now makes it apparent that you and I share oxygen with them.

As Robert Wilensky said, “We’ve all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true.”

But obviously, we are straying a long way from Historic Aviation now, aren’t we?

Right at the edge of the tree line, with power cables about 100 yards away and a hangar adjacent to the landing site. That takes serious skill and large slice of luck to be able to walk away from. Hopefully Dan Griffith is on the mend and will be back flying soon

MK912 will fly again, probably with a lot of new metal in it,

As above.

Judging by the condition P9374 and N3200 were at the beginning of their ‘restorations’, I have no doubt that we will see this Spit’ back in the air where she belongs eventually.

All things considered, this could have been MUCH worse. Thankfully the pilot was okay, and no one else was involved. 3rd party damage was minimal too.

Yes, but most of us are born with the intelligence to look at the fantasies of the deluded and apply rational thought to them. Oddly this brings us to conclusions that often coincide with ‘mainstream sources’

Others prefer to believe in things they’d like to be true, even when totally improbable and unrealistic.

But obviously, we are straying a long way from Historic Aviation now, aren’t we?
