Attached photos of a Spitfire model I’m sure some will enjoy. I believe such models were presented to station commanders by either Vickers or Rolls Royce when the Spitfire first went out to Squadrons. Someone may have more details?

Just picked up on this thread, interesting as I have one of those sitting on my desk here now, been around in the family for ever, gets lost for a while then turns up again, originally it had some paint and a small label but all that remains is the outline of the paint were the brass has been polished back and the rivet holes for the label, no matter I like it.

Dear Sir,
One of these models was presented to 81 Squadron at RAF Seletar in 1954.
81 Squadron PR Unit flew ‘THE LAST!’ Spitfire PRXIX – PS888 on its last official sortie on 1st April 1954. Later it was sold to the Royal Thai Air Force with two others as Instructional Airframes, with spare R-R Griffon engines.
The whereabouts of the model is unknown
The ’81 Squardon Association’ formed in Sept 2005 is trying to locate it.
Web site for the association is: http://81squad.netfirms.com/.
