Spitfire PR.IV information and photos

Hi

This is my first posting of a subject on the site and i am sure that some of you can help me out?.
I am at present researching the histories of the Spitfire PR.IV’s assembled at Henley airfield for a book about the airfield, but am not sure exactly how many were assembled and test flown from there or if the early ones were assembled and flown from Heston, i.e. the R and X range of serial numbers.
Some Mk.V were also flown from Henley as in the attached photo, although again i am not sure if the photo is actually Henley, any ideas?
Plus i’m also on the lookout for any photos of the Spitfires PR.IV that i could use, so if anyone has any i could use it would be most appreciated, credit will of course be given to whomever they belong.

Thanks
Darren

There are a couple of photographs in Alfred Price’s “The Spitfire Story” which show final assembly and flight preparation of PR 1Vs at Henley and the background looks very like your photo above.

Henley Production List

Try this – some of the histories are a bit off, especially the Russian aircraft – but it’s a start.

Some of the information you require can be found in “Merlin PR Spitfires” author Wojtek Matusiak, Ventura Publications. He visits the forum with the name voytech.
