Spitfire propeller ID

I understand that some spitfire propellers with green discs are Hydulignum
does anyone know what versions of spitfire these props where used on?

The blade is for a R19/5F5/1 prop used on Griffon Spits Mks XIV to XIX

Yes, that’s a left handed blade.

Yup, those are left handers. I’ll stick with RA10367 blades for the Seafire XV or XVII.

Quick question for you. Is the blade left or right handed? To put it another way, if you were to stand behind the blade, which way would it turn. To the left (anticlockwise) or the right (clockwise).

My reason for asking is that the only Hydulignum blade I can find that ends in 67 is RA10367 which was used on Griffon engined Seafires (no mark given in the document I’ve got). I don’t have a lot of info on this blade so I’m going to have to use a bit of guess work here.

For a Griffon, the blade should be left handed. The green disk lists the serials for four blades (including the serial for your blade 65301) so it’s a four bladed prop. Put those together and you have a blade for a Seafire XV or XVII.

Above is a picture of the green disc from the prop I’m trying find out about
all I can read on the disc is
RS
4594
530
6280
67208

under disc it says “set/fine”

on the underside/base all I can read is
67/HRS
523 6644
HRA 65301
SA1022

This is one of two props I’ve now got and I’ve been told they originated from someone who was employed as an RAF driver during WWII from an airfield in S E England and they was deemed unfit for repair. I have further information but nothing about what type of spitfire they came from. The other is a early jablo and both in original condition.

As far as I’m aware there were two types of Hydulignum blades used on the Spitfire.

There was the RA675/H blade used on the RX5/3 Propeller fitted to some Spitfire Mk.II aircraft.

There was also the RA10046HCS blades fitted to the R5/4F5/4 and R12/4F4/4 Propellers used on the Spitfire Mks, VII, VIII, IX and XI.

With all these propellers Jablo blades could also be fitted.
