How is the rebuild going? Is it going to be painted in the same colours?

Curses, Photobucket! I’m working on a 1/72 scale model of PS853/G-RRGN and cockpit photos are a little hard to come by online…any chance these can be saved and posted again?

what a cracking picture, were you the photographer?
Seem to recall it was our own Albert Ross, taking the shot from the Oxford, in late ”60’s.

ARCo/HFL did put these telemetry sensors in a few of their Spitfire rebuilds – RN201 and PV202, for example – so I imagine it’s quite possible. There was a good article a few years back in one of the monthlies (I forget which one, now) which mentioned these instruments being fitted. All to preserve the engine life and prevent any possible failures in future.

I think you will find they had new avionics fitted as in 2 Radios and Transponder and a GPS that is removable to fit a camera control head unit, simply to enable it to operate in the current climate with Mode S etc, but that was it, the only other stuff was to tidy up and renew / remove years of redundant electrical modifications and changes..
You can see the removable camera mount centre stage and the new radio and transponder head units left side below the red canopy jettison knob.

I know this is dragging up an old thread, and this isn’t about a recent incident, but, I’ve recently heard that it said that during the recent overhaul of ‘853, RR had a suite of high tech data telemetry sensors fitted (engine as well as airframe) with live data feed.
Being RR, I could perhaps see why they might want to do that, but does anyone know if it’s true or not…??

Absolutely. I’d particularly like to see MT818 back as G-AIDN/N32. And, while going slightly off topic,
here’s a lovely shot of G-AIDN in an unusual formation.
what a cracking picture, were you the photographer?
