There’s a spot all right :(….my girlfriend has christened it Clancy!
Apparently one of the Spit’s engineers was heard to report she was running like a Swiss watch 🙂

She performed beautifully! Flown during the main displays by John Lanham, she was taken up for Friday’s Twilight Extreme show by Keith Skilling. Without a doubt this was the best Spitfire display I have ever seen. Starting by coming in from behind the crowd at around 100ft, it just got better.

There was a minor problem of some sort on Sunday meaning the first display had to be cut short, but it was only precautionary and the later dogfight with the Me108 went ahead as planned 🙂 There are some very fine videos of PV270 at the show on YouTube.

Classic Fighters Airshow
Some pics of PV270 at Classic Fighters, Omaka Airfield, Blenheim, NZ. I was there on Good Friday, 10 April 2009. The pilot was John Lanham. In the last shot you can see the Deere family and ground-crew (in foreground) who never let the aircraft out of their sight all day. I wouldn’t either.

Very nice indeed, I agree that the BBMF’s IIa would look good as Al’s 54 SQN Kiwi.

Looking very smart. Is this the first time a Spitfire has been painted in the markings of members of the owners family?
I was wondering that too Ollie! It seems to me that a Spitfire wearing the markings of Al Deere is a long way overdue. I have always been very surprised that a BBMF Spit has never been painted to represent one of Al Deere’s “Kiwi’s”…I would dearly love to see this happen one day. Anyone else agree?
…Best of luck to Brendon Deere with the remainder of the project…she’s looking great!
