1: Which Mk9 is supposed to be with OFMC having been off the scene for a while?
2: Is MJ627 flying yet?
3: Am I alone in being saddened by breaking the MK16s up at Conningsby? I dont believe that its a case of just taking a wing or fuselage off and resuing it, I doubt either would have had parts that could have been used. If, say a spit had needed a new wing, perhaps it would have been justified to take the part off.
Is it true BBMF are banned from getting spares from private donors?

Sadsack
I don’t understand why you feel upset by the stripping down of the two Mk XVI’s, it was even sadder to see them in the state they were in after years of neglect. They now however are being used of spares for the rest of the flight and that doesn’t just mean taking parts off and fitting them on to something else!!
I don’t know why you said that because nobody would do that without checking the components were fit for use.
So far one engine has been completely overhauled and is in the Lanc. All the flying controls ailerons, rudders, flaps and one elevator are being refurbished and as reported in flypast a rudder has been fitted to the MkIX. The wings are getting the same treatment.
The lowback fuselage is nearing completion as is the tailplane, various other components have had the same treatment and now sit in our stores ready for use
Both aircraft had been neglected to the point that although they may have looked like the real thing alot of components had been stripped out or even replaced with fibreglass replicas and even a broom handle was fitted for a control column. The highback Mk16 has been completely stripped and no longer exists , but with the frames and components salvaged it means the flight has a healthy supply of spares for the future.
Oh and yes we can take spares from private donors.

I read in the latest Flypast that the BBMF had borrowed a rudder from one of the MkXVIs for MK356 – that true?

1. MH434, has been with OFMC ‘officially’ since 1983 and is currently at DX along with P-51D Ferocious Frankie and their AT-6.
2. Yes. I believe she is hangered at East Kirby at the moment waiting for ex-BBMF boss Paul Day to have a fiddle with her for this years season.
