Spitfire scramble – any info?

Whilst Googling for something Battle of Britain-related, I came across this image of RAF pilots scrambling to their Spitfires – only the aircraft are Mk.XVIs (bearing what looks like the codes of 19 Squadron).

Can anyone come up with anything more info? Such as, when this might have been (I’m guessing post-war)??

So is there really no-one on this forum who knows where the photo above comes from? I am amazed. The wealth of knowledge on here is amazing and usually answers are forthcoming within an hour or two. I’m really surprised that no-one has seen this photo before or knows which archive it is held by, particularly for a Spitfire picture.

… and it gets better.

Now we’re up to 12 pilots and a dog for 6 aircraft!

No and yes. The Reach for the Sky Spits had a semi-accurate 1940 camouflage finish on them.

Prepared to be shot down in flames, but this isn’t anything to do with Reach for the Sky is it? I can’t remember, but were there QV coded Spitfires in that?

Sorry to resurrect this zombie, but I’ve found this image which confirms there were more aircraft in the scene than shown in the original photo.

These are LF.XVIe Spitfires of No 19 Squadron, probably taken at Molesworth. I’ve been told this is an IWM image but have had no success in finding it on their website. Does anyone know the IWM photo ID for this image as it would be interesting to see the whole photograph and find out the details they have recorded?

I’m guessing there are others out of shot! :p

If thats the case four of the pilots/dog are running the wrong way.
