Spitfire/Seafire project progress?

Hi all,

If I recall Seafire XV PR503 was doing engine runs sometime ago, and should be close to flight. What’s happening to Spitfire EN224 and Seafire LA564 (or LA546, always seem to confuse the two). Or any other Spitfire project such as XIV RM689, The Calais Mk I, IX RR232, where’s XIV MV262 gone….

etc.etc.

Cheers

Well, these projects are the private business of those who own them, so it’s hardly unreasonable for them to keep a low profile if they so wish.

George

I know that some have had undeserved bad coverage in this forum, and prefer to stay quiet.

Mark 12 must be sworn to secrecy!

Correct…for EN224. Confidentiality agreement signature at point of sale.

LA564 has subsequently been sold on and is now with Kennet Aviation at North Weald and will be restored to flight status…as will SX300, an earlier acquisition that passed through the PRA collection.

LA546 mortal remains are still stored with owner Craig Charleston.

…One of the rudder pedals from P9374, this taken shortly after its arrival in the UK in 2000.

Chumpy.

yeah ok, i understand that a lot of projects are private etc, etc, but there are some of us interested in the nuts & bolts, the effort in re-building, the hard graft, long term effort and workmanship involved in the restoration of a classic aeroplane.
OK it may not to possible due to space, or time to escort people around, but perhaps a open day / weekend.
like the Spit at Shuttleworth, taken apart and now on rebuild all in the public view, besides perhaps (and this might be a minefield here) a small fee be involved to help boost the coffers, and who knows if one of the visitors might be usefull to the rebuild.
another case in point, one of the Mk.1’s recovered from a French beach, i read somewhere that the rudder pedal’s were early types stamped with the supermarine logo, produced before mass-production, small little item’s towards a rebuild but item’s never seen, and i bet their’s not many seen the inside of a Spit’s wing’s, and the clever way it was built.
enough rant, your thought’s gentleman

No, I agree with you on that principle, but what I should have pointed out was that several of the airframes mentioned are well-known to us on the forum (RM689, RR232, the Calais Mk.I etc.) and also in the press.

But yes, it would be nice to see their progress if possible…

Periodicals

Not on all the aeroplanes asked about. Some are low key and likely to remain so. In an age where it’s all too easy to post a question or comment on a public forum one should not lose sight of the fact that you are actually requesting information on and discussing in public another individual’s private business.

Just because we may have a passing interest in a subject does not give us an automatic right to expect answers to queries relating to what is in fact another person’s private property.

Just my 2 pence worth, but then perhaps I’m just old fashioned. Must be my age……:(

Despite the fact that their progress is occasionally reported in the aviation periodicals?
