Spitfire SL721

Love Spitfires especially early marks, but would be nice to have a ME109b, only trouble is none exist to my knowledge.

I do not care how many Spitfires the more the merrier and Hurricanes and anything else I would like to thank all the owner / operators for their dedication and allowing me to see swams I never ever thought would be possible

Can never have enough Spitfires in my opinion! Would love to see someone bring in a few different ww2 types! I’d like to see a German type brought over permanently!

yeah bloody Spitfires, I would love the money to own one ! a mozzie, now how much = a Mosquito, 2 Spitfires, 3?

Far too many Spitfires, if i had to waste my money on 1, I’d want an airworthy 20 series as they’re non existent. But would rather fund a Mosquito.

If I was the one with the money I’d be trying fund a B or C model mustang and P47 for the UK! ONE I’d love to see stationed back here is a P38

We seem to be in an era of ever-increasing numbers of Spitfires, more Hurricanes ( hurrah !) but almost all other types, especially the American fighters, are becoming less numerous, or even extinct, in the UK .

All warbirds are a treat to see, as is SL721, but it would be nice to think that aircraft like the Tigercat, Hellcat or Thunderbolt might also find their way back here at some point .

“Michael Potter, who founded corporate software company Cognos (TSX: CSN) in 1984, has also been flying high recently, and not just because his shares were up some 15% this year, bringing him over the half-billion mark. Potter—who has been steadily selling off his Cognos holdings since retiring as chairman and CEO in 1995 (he now has just a 5.5% stake)—was literally sky-high in August, when he taxied his last-of-its-kind restored 1945 Spitfire SL721 onto the tarmac and put on a show for 400 fighter-pilot veterans and their families at the Canada Aviation Museum in Ottawa. In late February, 59-year-old Potter also took to the skies to personally fly his pregnant partner, Veronique Dhieux, in his private Falcon jet across the ocean to her native France so their daughter, Lilli Angelique, could be born on March 10 in Paris. (Potter also shares custody of two other daughters from a previous marriage.) Potter and Dhieux returned home for a July wedding in the garden of their $4.6-million Rockcliffe Park home in front of 100 guests. Great to see an all too rare high-back in the air, thanks for the photos. And to think in the 1950s they were the prevelant variety, at least on film, eh, Mark 12?

Nice colour scheme (though the blue JM-R was a very good reproduction of the original) and glad to see they got the roundel colour right and moved it forward to the correct position…….seems familiar! 🙂

There’s a bit of a hiccup in that DND site’s article…Mr Potter’s Mustang may well have been on 442 Sqn (the postwar RCAF Aux unit in BC) and spent time at Rivers (where close-support training took place)…but that would certainly not have been during the BCATP, which wound down in 1945. The wartime 442 Sqn also flew Mustang IVs–RAF ones. (CAvM’s Mustang is a postwar 442 bird painted as a wartime one; it appears Mr Potter’s idea for his aircraft is the same.)

Anyone know whether 442, in its brief period operating Mustang IVs in the UK in 1945, fielded any natural-metal examples? The ones I’ve seen in photos have all been in dark green/ocean grey camo…and the metal on “Oklahoma Miss” is absolutely gorgeous, well worth not painting over :rolleyes: …!

Funny this is brought up i was with Bob Swaddling the other night and he was showing me some pictures of what it might look like, as for what squadron that has not been decided, of course Bob will be helping Mr. Potter with this project. Also i talked to Mr. Potter at the Air Show and the P-40 deal is not going to go through, too bad that would have been great to see. Had a person also e-mail me about Mr. Potter buying a F4U but when i asked him he just smiled :rolleyes:

Mr. Potter’s Spitfire will be in Windsor Ont. on the 10th,11th for the new Spitfire ,Hurricane replicas that are replacing FM212 at Jackson park.
