Spitfire Spat in Sunday Times

Interesting little piece in the Prufrock column in the Business section of today’s Sunday Times about the sale of a Spit XVI.

Hi, yes it is RW386, I understand that the story is true and its still in a box at Greenham Common

The aircraft is a 90% (perhaps a little more) complete project requiring final assembley. It was under contract with HFL before Mr Arnolds death but was containerised and storered prior to final completion.

I believe John Barnes has also recently bought an L-39 Albatross…

Gentlemen gentlemen,

We are talking about a partially restored Mk. XVI that has been, until recently, in a container for circa ten years.

MikeJ: Shouldn’t that be:-

..what Spitfires are ‘offered’ at, and what they actually cost, are two different things altogether.

Read Mk 12s post above

It is RW386

Not TE184

Wizard can be linked with Warbirds of Great Britain and David Arnold

As far as i am aware RW386 is still in a box at North Weald

Over to Mk V………

If it is TE184, £500K sounds like a bargain, even if it does need a bit of TLC.
I thought airworthy Spits are usually offered at prices nearer the million mark.

Anyone know which Mk XVI it is? Wizzard ‘Investments’ is David Arnold I think.. Could this be the Mk XVI TE184 which recently went from Halton to Duxford and is now ‘In store’??
