Much more importantly, when is volume 2 coming out?

Quick question,
Does frame 11 have any link to provenance?
Cees
Only if it has the serial number painted on it or photographic evidence of being from that plane I would think.

So how many restored DH88 Comets have you seen that are anything other than red?
You mean apart from the black one?

Received my copy today. It will be my (self bought) ‘leaving’ present from the RAF (thank you RAF/me), signed by Mess members.
Warning: If you are away from home when your book arrives, Royal Mail will hold on it for a week. If not collected from their local depot within a week, it will be returned to sender (got away with it, just!).

Really enjoying reading this, didn’t realise just how many are under long term restoration.

I only want volume II, so half price for me 🙂
I have some Swordfish fabric patches (some where) from the RNHF.

I think the answer is that no one has bothered to administer such an enterprising idea. However, Shuttleworth did when they recovered their DH88 Comet racer, G-ACSS, and sold off various sizes of painted fabric when they recovered it. I am the proud owner of a piece. Maybe not original 1930s fabric, but at least it’s from the Comet and the money went towards the aircraft’s restoration.
Caroline Grace also sold fabric pieces from ML407 some years ago, I still have mine somewhere.

Hi all,
Got my copy on friday, a very pleasant surprise when I got home from work. I have been reading since and it’s hard to put down asl there is so much information in it. Especially the new entries compared to the previous volume.
I recommend it and can’t wait until volume two is out.
Well done chaps.

Any idea when the black and white version will be available for sale?
Still in the works but we are “hoping” for mid-May … Easter and the various holidays over the next couple of weeks are slowing things up.

A question for you gents. For the airframes that are re-born on the back of a few twisted pieces of metal, that might about fill a dinky ‘Halfords’ sized trailer, what happens to the metal that is not able to be re-used or used as patterns? I can imagine that some projects might have an equally large pile of twisted metal in a pile next to the completed airframe.
Does it get quietly disposed of anonymously to prevent further re-births?
a pm is fine.
The skin shown in the photo at the top of pg 344 was for sale on Guy Black’s stall at the Shoreham Aerojumble … I thought I recognised it and went back to the book on our own stall to check! I think he wanted about £275 for a very nice piece ….

Red fabric? Are you sure it’s not genuine Red Baron fokker?

A good question Andy that I have wondered myself.
In fact, I’ve often wondered why old skins of restored aircraft are not cut up and sold for profit.
