An interesting table with an interesting price tag!!

Although this was last year, I don’t recall seeing this on the forum previously.

It’s not just Spitfires that can inspire cabinet makers …

As a diversion, a few years ago I saw this in a Paris furnishing exhibition
It had a glass insert to turn it into an occasional table. When I showed an interest in it the German who had made it asked me where he could find bits of old aircraft. Afraid I have lost his card

Are those tabletop brackets screwed into the blades?

Nice concept, but if my company owned such an item as a boardroom piece I’d want to take care no Mr Clumsy (mesmerised by the shiny bits) walked into those blades jutting out beyond the glass top, as I guess they might make an impression too, but on the thigh!:o

When Huw first contacted me about this I understood that it was a commissioned piece for a boardroom or the like. Quite possibly, something happened ‘twixt commission and completion to place this on the open market, but I don’t know. However, getting this on TV in the manner he did was good advertising and PR – albeit that the price tag was somewhat ‘unrealistic’. But I suspect Huw knows this! However, no harm in punting it out at a high price. He can always come down if he wants to, I suppose.

I clearly should have charged MUCH more for the prop blades I supplied for the project!!
As to price, I think the Burma Spitfire famine and Vol II of the Spitfire Survivors book must have caused a bit of a ‘spike’ in the value of project starter-kits. 🙂
Surely it would be cheaper to wait for one of the Burmese Spitfires and cut the front off of one of them instead, or, if the idea catches on, cut them all up………

I’ll take two…!
(Not really!)

I think £120,000 for it would have been unrealistic.
I would like it more as a wall hangar, but for £500,000, I would rather put that money towards a much better wall, or walls, or even better reverse the pitch of the blades and it would make a great ceiling fan
It seems to be a great business idea atm to polish the hell out of a bit of aeroplane, make it into a bit of furniture, and ask huge amounts of money for it

Yes, I saw this a few nights ago on a TV programme where 4 dealers bid for things.
It didn’t sell, the owner was looking for £500,000 and the best offer was £120,000.
A very desirable object, but that is well out of my league. Take off 3 noughts and we’ll all have one 😀
