Sellout event at NZ Warbirds, photos at link (and it has reasonable distribution in arthouse cinemas as well.)

Good news for us Downunder, distribution agreed in AU and NZ.

Even better news, Warbirds NZ have organised a screening in their hangar before the main release.
Hopefully they can organise a couple of veterans as well.

https://www.facebook.com/events/738648163134163/

Some of our aircraft will parked outside and inside in pride of place will be the iconic MH367 – SUPERMARINE SPITFIRE right beside you and of course your seat – as you are mesmerised by Spitfire the movie;
** Come along and get up close and personal with this beautiful icon of the skies – a Supermarine Spitfire.
** Take selfies with her.
** Meet the owner/pilot Doug and our own incredible Spitfire pilots; Gavin, Frank and Liz – one of the very few woman Spitfire pilots in the world.
** Buy a copy of the very limited availability new Spitfire movie book, NZ Warbirds Assoc. has bought out from England especially for this event – there is only 60 of them in NZ and we have them all here at Ardmore – a real collectible.
** Have your new Spitfire book signed by our Spitfire pilots.
** Buy yourself or those lucky kids a cool Spitfire t-shirt.
** Witness the roar and flames of a radial engine outside.
** You might even be able to view the next Spitfire fuselage and a Merlin engine to be restored here at Ardmore.
** If the weather lets us, you’ll see a fast and noisy WW2 P40 Kittyhawk fighter flypast before the movie starts, just to get you in the mood.

Well done Steve, I noticed you in the credits. Anyone notice the Griffon engine dubbing onto Merlin footage? Not an issue, they did the same in The Battle of Britain so it may be a tribute 🙂

Edited to give a thumbs up to John Dibbs and the advertising team for his magnificent photo on the front page of The Daily Telegraph for Friday 20th July….well done!

Having some small involvement with this project it’s pleasing to see all the positive comments. I am sure that the makers will be most happy with the positivity after all the hard work and passion that has been put into making it. It’s a shame that some of the pilots were unable to see the finished product but this will stand as a lasting testament to their bravery and sacrifice.

Sopwith, if you go to the film’s website it gives a list of the (limited) showings. I’ve booked to see it in Cambridge next Thursday at lunchtime.

If you missed the documentary being shown on the big screen, you won’t have to wait too long for the DVD….

Absolutely fantastic film which balanced the stunning air to air shots with historical footage and superb talking head sections from the veterans who flew them. The Vorderman top and tail sections were a bit stilted for me and I think the producers dropped the ball by going for glamour with a tenuous RAF connection, when a more seasoned interviewer would have made an interesting section flow better. That said they weren’t offensive and didn’t detract for what was my best cinematic experience for years.

I was struck by the candid commentary from the pilots who flew in the Battle about how they felt at the time and how over the years, the Spitfire has achieved a sort of romanticised mysticism when in fact it was designed to kill people and that should never be forgotten.

The thing that really hammered home the significance of the men and machine and their young age when entrusted to defend our skies, was as I left, some young people of about the same ages were going in to watch the latest fantasy blockbuster, it did raise a wry smile…..

One can only hope that if I ever reach the age of these magnificent people I have the same mental capacity and quick wit, especially the ATA lady’s!

I saw it last night, yes it was good but I feel the veteran side is emphasised on too much & in every previous documentary & covered to the max by the McGregor brothers. My personal interest in these aeroplanes is solely, who owns them, restores them, maintains them & displays them today. Why can’t we have a documentary just from that perspective?
Was surprised the most famous Spitfire of them all wasn’t featured too.

I saw this superb film in Brighton yesterday. I fully agree with all the previous comments here and I would have liked to see a little more about the Merlin (and Griffon) from an R-R perspective, not forgetting Stanley Hooker’s achievements as well as the work done by RetroTrac and other companies today to keep these priceless icons in the air today.

The film…stunning.

I picked up a copy of the companion book at the ‘Trailer’ showing marquee at Legends.

…and enquired after the large card posters hanging in the marquee…”Come back at 5 o’clock on Sunday”.

It just fitted in my car. 🙂
