I believe Gin funding is only a part of the whole project, the project itself is privately owned so it is reasonable to think that suitable funding is already in place and that the contributions from gin sales and merchandise actually supports the project and its multiple endeavours.

To fund a whole Spitfire entirely on gin I think would require many millions of sales!

Still a very exciting project and clearly taking big steps forward…

Posted on Facebook….

The AA810 project is pleased to announce that it has partnered with Kennet Aviation to provide CAA A8-23/25 oversight for the restoration to flight of Sandy’s Spitfire. Some outsourced work will be carried out by third parties which will be announced shortly, however the project will be completed and flown from Kennet’s Old Warden facility.

Kennet Aviation owner Tim Manna said “it is a privilege for Kennet to be taking on such a historically significant aircraft restoration and will be the latest in a great number of exciting machines that Kennet has returned to airworthiness over the last 27 years. The whole team and I are really excited in being involved with Sandy’s Spitfire and it’s lineage fits in perfectly with our current Seafire maintenance and restoration programs.”

AA810 is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022 with a first flight for early in 2023. Ongoing maintenance support post first flight will also be carried out by Kennet Aviation.

Kennet Aviation is a renowned restorer and operator of ex-military aeroplanes and helicopters. Kennet has restored and operated over 20 airframes of various types since starting in aviation restoration in 1991, some of which are flying with museums in different countries. Currently restoring a Seafire XV and Seafire XVII, the company has recently been carrying out major service inspections of airworthy Seafire XVII and AD4 Skyraider, both of which will be flying again in the 2019 season.

BP923 is indeed in progress however I don’t believe it has progressed too much for many years. I certainly believe AA810 will fly a long time in advance, probably by 10 years if not more.

BP923 is a PR-IV being rebuilt to fly.
It even has its own website http://www.spitfire-pr4.com/

I see in the latest Flypast, Chris Clifford says in his editorial that this will be the worlds only flying early mark reconnaissance Spitfire. I thought there was a PR IV being rebuilt in Norway or Sweden which is quite well advanced that was going to fly or am I under some misapprehension and it will be a static rebuild?

News of Alistair’s death was reported in the local paper in 1944. Good to read that he will be commemorated in such a fitting manner.

It’s a good job they drew a picture of a Spitfire on the floor, coz without that, who would know? perhaps if they were to build the sides up, (like concrete shuttering) they could pour the rest of the wreckage in…….adding a bit more substance.
