Spitfire thread

I just wondered what would happen if I posted a Spitfire thread with nothing in it. Where will it go from here?

let’s see now…

Well, it’s got four wheels, green in colour and is a good runner. A little bit of rust around the arches, but we’ve used some grease to treat this. She’s done 300,000+ miles and the engine sounds like a bucket of nine inch nails but if you’re a real fan you’ll see this as part of the cars character…

..Oh, completely wrong forum sorry! I’ll get me coat… :p :p
P.S, is this what you’re on about? 😀 😀

….. at RAF Woodvale in Lancashire

Which is where one of your moderators lived from 1965-1970. Unfortunately this was just after the THUM Flight Spitfires ceased to operate from there; the last station from which the RAF used the aircraft operationally

Jonathan, I remember on my last day we had 3 spits in the air, and that display performed by 434 was definatly a highlight to my work experience brought a tear to my eye.

….and then more people would add humourous comments and photos they’d taken but previously not posted.

……after trip to the loft with nothing doing, selected pic of IAC161 taken during fuel balance transfer checks prior to first flight the following day. (courtesy of HFL). Aerial shot of post restoration flight late in the afternoon of the 14th Jan. (I think Mark12’s sunset shot was aesthetically more pleasing and more of a milestone but I spent my time shooting DV).

I could contribute some history of one flying today

Spitfire Vb BM597 was built by Vickers Armstrong at Castle Bromwich as part of contract no B981687/39. 26 April 1942 she was delivered to No.37 Maintenance Unit (MU) at RAF Burtonwood and after the fitting of her operational equipment she was taken on charge by 315 (Deblinski) Sqn Polish Air Force at RAF Woodvale in Lancashire ? May 1942

Supercharged

Melv,

Now about that supercharging conversion we have been developing and flight testing for the Rearwin recently, using an inverted Spitfire intercooler and fairing…

Dear Melvcock,

The answer to your question dear boy is quite simple.
If you did this we would simply conclude that the thread contained a slection of the best Spitfire photographs you have managed to produce.Lots of love to Carol and dont forget to P38 after you’ve been down the pub,

Yours as ever,

Daily Male.
