Spitfire TR.IX MH367…

…has flown recently in New Zealand, wearing a new set of markings, according to this image.

Anyone know more behind the markings?

Have to agree there, Dave, it does look really nice in those colours.

Although I liked the old colours it wore in US markings, I like this one much better, especially as I had the pleasure of meeting Colin. I think this is the nicest scheme I’ve seen on a two-seater, though Johnny Houlton’s ML407 is a close second for looks.

Cheers, Dave. I thought there’d be some kind of New Zealand connection.

The markings are based on a No. 81 Squadron aircraft EN520 that was flown by New Zealand’s top ace Colin Gray in the Middle East.

See more photos of the two-seater on my forum here

And see a photo of the real aircraft in the chapter on Colin Gray in ‘Spitfire: The ANZAC’s’ by Malcolm Laird and Steve Mackenzie (Ventura Publications)
