Spitfire wingtips question

I have just read in a book that the later mark of Spitfires had detachable wingtips,which made me wonder whether the Mk1 and Mk2 were different. I always thought that all of them were detachable,perhaps I am under a misconception though.Interested to hear your comments on this.Thanks in advance.
