Hi,
I recently watched the 2001 film Pearl Harbor again
would like to know the ID’s of the Spitfires and
Hurricanes from the Battle of Britain sequences
and where it was shot – Folkstone??
I counted up to 6 spitfires in one shot (2 with
4-bladed props) and 2 Hurricanes.
I have one Huricane as Z5140 (XR-T) and a few
of the Spifires AR501 (RF-Y) and EP120 (RF-M)
although these are not confirmed.
Apparently, only 4 aircraft were actaully flown in
the aerial sequences.
Thank you
Simon Beck

Hmm…. can’t find the link for the site I was thinking of (which has several very nice air-to-airs of the Spitfire), but here’s one pic that comes up:

Thanks for the all the above information, its really
filled a gap in my “aviation film database” for
Pearl harbor. There were over 30 aircraft used for
this film!!!I saw on the Palm Springs Air Museum site that their
Mk.XIV Spitfire NH904 was imported to England for
this sequence but Graham Adlam has said this isn’t
so. I’ll have to question them on this.I see REF says “RF-T” (G-BKMI) was MT928 where Phantom
Phixer says it was MV154???Cheers

NH904 was painted up in the film markings, originally to be used with the then David Price Bf109E (now with Ed Russell in Canada), but they pulled money together to get the British sequences shot with more authentic Spits and the Buchon.
There are quite a few photos floating around of ‘904 in her PH markings – will have a look for them….

6 of one, half a dozen of another…
MT928 is merely a painted on serial – MV154 is the actual serial of that aircraft.

I remember taking some photos of the four Spits at Duxford’s Battle of Britain show – still got them somewhere, in both solo and group shots – IIRC, the three MkVs flew in formation together on the Sunday.

Photos of some of the aircraft in the Pearl Harbor film from the Biggin Hill Battle of Britain Airshow, 17th September 2000.
Vickers Supermarine Spitfire LFVB (BM597 / JH-C / G-MKVB) not in the film colours, but I like the photo!

The man to talk to.
Would be Graham Adlam here at this forum. It was his Spit replica that was used as a film prop.

Spot on.
There are some photos of EP120 and the Skyraider on the TFC website during filming – along with the Planes of Fame Buchon N700E.

I believe this is the info your after. The Spits that took part where as follows
MK.V BM597 AR352, RF-C
MK.V AR501 AR4474, RF-Y
MK.V EP120 AR3185, RF-M
MK.VIII MV154 AR654, RF-T
The Hurricanes were the then TFC Hurricane Z7381 (G-HURI) as well as the Shuttleworth Collections Sea Hurricane Z7015 (G-BKTH).
Skyraider G-RAID was used as the UK caamera ship.
UK filming was done at Badminton and over the coast of Lydd.
Also a replica Spitfire was used for ground shots and I believe some cockpit shots.
