I never realised there was a second Sea Hurricane flying, the one at Chino. What is its naval history?

New Zealand:
Mk.IIb P3351: Wanaka: Alpine Fighter Collection, for sale (not sure if this one is still here or counts as airworthy)

P3351 is still at Wanaka, an is a star attraction at the newly opened Wanaka Warbirds and Wheels Museum there. I believe it is still considered airworthy though the last time it flew publicly was apparently Easter 2008. Some believe it will be seen in the air again this Easter for the big Wanaka airshow which also commemorates 75 Years of the RNZAF. Hopefully it will be flown.

It was up for sale, I heard that it may have been sold, but I’ve not heard where or who to.

Yeah, I meant the Cavanaugh/ex-Charles Church aircraft, N109GU. I take it they still keep it airworthy, just not flown? :confused:

The Ed Russell ‘109 hasn’t moved then? I thought it had. Oh well! :rolleyes:

Allegedly.

3 Bf109Gs (ex-Buchon), all Germany.

3 Hispano Buchons (2 UK, 1 Germany).

1 Hispano Buchon maintained in airworthy condition (USA).

1 Hispano Buchon nearing end of rebuild to fly (USA).

I seem to recall if you include ‘flew in last ten years or so’ it was nearer 60.

Perhaps examples such as the Indian and Israeli historic flights have now slipped too far down the scale to make even the loosest qualification.

The Black Israeli Spitfire flew from Hatzerim to Dov airport, near Tel Aviv, for its annual inspection…….first week of December 2011. 🙂
