Does anyone know what that white spot is on the top right of the nose, just above the .303s? It is displayed in all 3 pictures as a white/pink spot – gun camera patch? And the serial number seems to not be mentioned in the description of the image…

Hi
If it is the same idea as on the US recce P-38’s.
it is paper, and it was designed so it ‘blew off’ after take off, to keep the lens clean and free from damage.

Pretty sure it is indeed a gun camera; ISTR these images are taken of a 23 Squadron NFII in Malta, which might help to narrow down the serial and also explains the need to keep the camera covered against scratches when on the ground.
