Spoted Saturday eve in N/W England

I’m looking for a little help, Late afternoon on Saturday 2nd March (Approx 16:45hrs) I sighted a darkish jet flying roughly due west just south of Widnes Cheshire, from where I was at the time I surmised it might be on finals to Liverpool airport though it didn’t appear to have its gear down. At the distance I was from it I couldn’t identify the type but If I didn’t know better (Which I do) I would have said it was a Blackburn Buccaneer! With a sharpe pointed nose It was definitely not a passenger aircraft and though I can’t be certain it seemed to have a T tail. It definitely had the apperance of a military fast jet type,

Just after 17:00 by now I was on the M6 southbound Just north of Knutsford when what I believe to be the same aircraft crossed the motorway ahead of me this time heading approx due east at around 2/3000ft and a fair speed . Frustratingly again it was a little too far away for me to pick out any detail or identify the jet. So what I’m asking is does anybody here know what it was? Given that not much aviation activity in Britain escapes the notice of members of this forum I’m hoping someone might have the answer?
