Spotted travelling up the A42…………. NOT

😀

Can finally post these taken back in Early Feb as it is now out in the public domain.

The light was bloody awful, early morning, really low strong sun with Gin clear skies and positioned in the worst possible place for photos in relation to the suns position, so hope these are ok.

Fantastic!

A DAF 2800 turbo with a 40′ tri-axle curtain-sider in blue. NoBC3568

and

a Renault thingy with another 40′ tri-axle curtain-sider in silver! possibly a York 383 could be BC3882.

Did you get a photo of the tractor unit?………….

Well, strictly speaking, ‘689 DID masquerade as ‘619 at one point in its lifetime, so….

😉

So THAT’S why I thought for years it was RM619 – until corrected by ‘the Guru’….

yup for storage whilst 19 is done 🙂

Lol noticed the reg after I posted but thought……….. aahh never mind, didn’t figure on the reg police coming along :p

Wasn’t the spar problem as the BBMF had, as it was fine, just having it done at the same time.

he Aero A.42 was a Czechoslovakian bomber aircraft of 1929 that was only ever produced in prototype form. For its day, it was an advanced design, with a sleek monoplane configuration. However, the Czech Air Force was not satisfied with it for a number of reasons, in particular, the aircraft’s take-off and landing rolls were felt to be excessively long, and crew complained about the cramped cabin. The air force suggested a set of modifications to Aero, including replacing the wooden wing with a metal one, but Aero discontinued development.

On September 20, 1930, one of the two prototypes set international speed records of 253.428 km/h over a 1,000 km (621 mile) closed circuit, carrying payloads of 500 kg (1,100 lb) and 1000 kg (2,200 lb).

One prototype was used by the Czechoslovak Air Force until 1938, then by the Slovak Air Force. Probably it was scrapped in 1940.[1]

The A.42 was a single-engined high-wing cantilever monoplane, with a fixed landing gear.

NOW GIVING YOU A HINT.

It is also a bit of road it travelled along :p

We’ve been told off on here for referring to aircraft by their serial numbers only and not naming them, now what is it?!
I’ve been Googling A-42 but no joy!

According to a recent article in ‘Aircraft’ magazine, restoration was put on hold last year after RR’s other Spit (PS853) was grounded with a spar problem, and it has been transferred to Derby for storage

RM689, surely?

Great to see she’s coming back together, though.

Great to see her looking in such good shape 🙂 I’m afraid I know very little about the restoration of this aircraft, Who has been doing the work and is there an estimated year for completion?
