Hi all, I have been keeping an eye out for Historics today, air band on too but nothing.
How about we all put in this thread what we have spotted during this Summer while at home.

What looked like Kennet Aviation’s Gnat flew over very gracefully late morning and few back about 40 minutes later. Flying north
This afternoon someone flying sideways in a Piper Cub, did not think it was that windy – not at ground level anyway!
Brian.

Was out in the garage about 20 minutes ago conducting some beating/straightening & TIGgery pokery on a P51 header tank when there was the most godawful noise. Brain went through the “is the Tig blowing up? is it an earthquake, WTF is that racket??” process..
It was a B1 bomber rattling my roof with the burners crackling away at about 500ft.. 🙂

Does a VC-10 count as a “Historic” yet? I get them coming over all the time as I’m in St. John’s College Oxford, right under the Brize Norton flightpath in some conditions. Usually I just hear them, but last week one came right overhead, very low, headed WSW. The surest way of getting me to leap up from an essay and fling the windows wide is the roar of four Conways!:D

How can we cope with unwritten rules????
By: Chipmunk Carol - 31st March 2025 at 13:27
There’s an unwritten rule on this thread that scheduled flights, both commercial and military) are not included – otherwise you could stand near any military airfield and be writing all day.
Lists of aircraft at airshows are not included.
I guess it ought to be, at least 40 years old and seen in an unusual place.
The VC10 might have a good history, but it has not yet been *confined* to the history books yet. Nice try! 🙂

I’m sure I saw someone put a police helicopter on here a little while ago. That can’t be very historic. Surely it doesn’t count? Otherwise I’d be posting about twice a day!

I live near 2 Military airfields & neither of them has ” scheduled flights” as such.. 😉

Abysmally. That is why I wrote them down.
This thread has also been amazingly frugal in it’s thread drift. Bravo!

I may not know you, ZRX61, but I do know you are smart enough to know what that means in military terms. 🙂 🙂

Oops, sorry. Apart from the RAF the only thing that could count is a Waco biplane last autumn…but that could still be a new build! 😮

On the other hand surely it does no harm to post about things we find interesting/worth mentioning?

like the sea king i saw tonight? some are in museums, so technically they are historic

Indeed. Everything around here is pretty much Flight Test out of either Plant 42 or Edwards AFB so there’s not much *routine* patrol or training stuff etc:)
Altho the KC135 doing circuits & bumps today falls into the “routine/scheduled* stuff

I wholeheartedly agree.

Doesn’t Duxford have a Eurofighter now? Does that make them historic too? 😀

I’m pretty sure most military aircraft flying you will find in a museum somewhere so surely unless it is a prototype aircraft that must mean you can post almost anything. :p

This Egret was on the ramp 2 days ago:
Oddly enough parked in the exact same spot as the Lockheed *DragonStar* was a couple of days earlier.
Egret has been under going repairs after the nosegear collapse last year which resulted in composite propellor parts spread over a few acres… Luckily there is another Egret at VNY so they were able to use that bird to take moulds off to replace the fuselage parts that got mullared. I have a pic of it sitting in the weeds next to the runway on it’s nose someplace as I was driving next to the taxiway when they pranged it.
& yes, that is a DAS decal in the top right corner of my windscreen 🙂
That hangar is 90,000sqft (not including the workshopshop/office space on the sides. theres 2 of them:

about 5 minutes ago – travelling north over the east of Uttoxeter then turned left at the A50! – a nice silver An-2 trundling along in the misty grey sky – nice to hear a round engine this time of year!

I saw Harvard KF183 flying around Boscombe Down at 1030 today.
It’s good to see her flying again as it has been some time since I last heard her distinctive noise! 😎

Single seat Venom did a fast run and break through Duxford around 14.50pm. What a wonderful sound.
