I learnt to fly in a Cessna 152 a year ago in Florida and have not been able to afford to fly ever since! Is there anyone that flys from Redhill, Shoreham or Biggin Hill that would like company for several hours flying and help spread the cost? I would really like to get some hours in to keep my licence!
Can anyone help?

Sounds great. I didn’t know about it, thanks for the input.
It won’t help Vampire much, Biggin to Norwich would rather dilute the savings, but others here would doubtless like to know.
Any chance you could post the url?
Is there a minimum hours experience requirement?
Moggy
Their web site is in production at the moment i think, once its up and running i will post it on the forum. No minimum hours requirement.
If anybody would like their contact numbers and details PM me.

sorry Moggy but i cant agree with that, the school I fly at at Norwich has got a system where PPL holders can enjoy the benefits of share ownership without having to purchase a share. Basically they pay a small monthly sum and then pay cost price for their flying. So some people are flying for as little as £60 an hour. Thats why I chose to learn there in the first place.
I used to be in a group like this at Chatteris, operating an AMF Cheveron (3-axis Microlight) run by a company called Airshare – damn good idea. The one difference was that you didn’t have to have ANY previous experience- instruction was included.
You joined the group, the more you paid each month by standing order the cheaper your flying was, payments started at £50ish which got you 1 1/2 hours I think back then. You went solo, got your license, and brought your share for £1! – but also agreed to sell it back to the group on leaving for £1. I think there were 20 members per aircraft, and various different aircraft at different sites around the UK, any of which you were able to fly given the correct license. Its a shame they’re not still around.

This highlights one of the problems with the advertising and selling of ‘low cost ppl’.
If you can’t afford to train for a PPL in the UK it is very unlikely you’ll be able to afford to fly here. Flying costs virtually the same as training.
Vampire. If what you are looking for is somebody to fly one leg, whilst you fly the return, that strikes me as very sensible. However you stand more chance from advertising on the board at Biggin, since for this to work you will need to both be checked out on the same club aircraft.
Have you tried other, smaller fields in the area? It doesn’t sound like it would be too much of a problem for you to move clubs?

Hours schmours! 🙂
Two people flying together get roughly the same experience for the cost of one. Gotta be worth it surely? I know as I did this a lot after passing my PPL following advice from the FLYER List and friedns of which Moggy was one who advocated this route this ideal. Fortunately my club encouraged this through their social calendar and I sit in on the pax seat with other kind pilots.
BTW, Dean as in Dashwood?
Its only worth it for experience only yes Blue, but for cost saving it doesnt work, I wouldnt detract anyone away from sharing flights, absolutely not but for what Vampire wants to utilise it for it wont add up.
er, Blue, Dashwood? elaborate please 😉

Hi Vampire
To be honest, I think this is a false economy? end of the day you both can’t book the hrs but only share the hr i.e. ½hr each, the only real way sharing flights is a benefit is that you could possibly fly further for the same money, you need 12 hrs is it? to have been flown in a 2 yr period for your licence revalidation? which includes 12 takeoffs & landing? (someone requote me if the figures are wrong), so unless you “landaway” you wont get your required takeoffs & landings in the same No of hrs if you shared & didnt land away.
Keeping current is always hard for the newly qualified PPL and is the lion share of the reason why so many PPLs let their licence lapse after obtaining. Theres no easy way around it if your budget is tight
Anyone else?
