I found it an excellent display yesterday. What really made my day was meeting OFMC pilot Lee Proudfoot in hangar 3. He kindly offered me the front seat of Ferocious Frankie and talked me through the lay out of the cockpit, a great experience and lucky as he was just minutes away from displaying MH434!

“I just don’t see the fascination in 22 guys kicking a pig’s bladder up and down a field into a fishing net at either end!”

Daren Cogdon.

:diablo:

If you want to be really picky you could say the same about most sports. Motor racing? modern chariot racing. Golf? If you don’t want to spend hours in the rough looking for your ball don’t hit it, stick it in your pocket you’ll know where it is then. For all that we all enjoy something that others would seek to reduce to that level.
I’m of the impression (Maybe I’m wrong but I think not) that for the size of this country we have a larger collection of active vintage and veteran aircraft than any other of the same size. In fact I’d go so far as to say that in terms of aircraft per acre of land we’re probably better of even than the USA. Admittedly most of them are located at 2 or 3 sites all of which I admit are in the Southern half of the country but access to those sites is easier than in a lot of countries so stop knocking it and enjoy while you can. In the not too distant future this could be the good old days you’ll have fond memories of and wish you could see again.

I found it very enjoyable yesterday although it was my first airshow there and definitely not my last. The programme stated F15’s and I think I saw 4 of them stated elsewhere so I was a little disappointed when they weren’t on yesterdays itinery;does anybody know the reason?
For me the historic theme is very appealing and for this reason I joined Friends of Duxford a while ago so was pleased they had an enclosure for members and were providing drinks and biscuits all afternoon, but I think they under estimated how many members would turn up as there was seating only for roughly 40% of them. Many including myself resorted to buying a couple of camping chairs available on site but overall I take my hat off to the association and to the organisers for an excellent day.

I missed this thread 1st time round and cannot believe that anyone could be so dismissive of Duxford and its shows…..you would miss them if they are gone….boy did people learn that when the Vulcan was no longer flying. A true dyed in the wool enthusiast would never be so dismissive of seeing these aircraft.
I still get a tear in my eye at Legends as the Spits rally around the field…seeen it loads of times…..never bored of it….hope I am lucky to think of that memory with other key family memories on my deathbed.
TFC is a big part of the Duxford experience….cherish them.

Considering how many displays have disappeared we are very lucky to have these regular displays at DX and Shuttleworth.

I’ve been filming DX shows since 1995 and I never tire of seeing the aircraft display despite having seen them numerous times before, it’s ALWAYS a privilege to see any of these aircraft fly.

Incidentally, my brother has just phoned me to say that the BBMF dam flypast is a closed shop with ‘invited guests’ only, anyone know about this.

http://www.bbmf.co.uk/news.html

‘This event is by ticket only on advice from the Emergency Services. There will be no vehicular access to Derwent Dam or the Derwent Valley north of the A57. Police will enforce strict parking controls on the A57 and surrounding roads.

The reason for limiting access is purely related to public safety and the number of car park passes being issued is directly related to the number of vehicles which can be safely accommodated in the valley without impeding access for Ambulances or other Emergency Vehicles. Anyone who arrives by public transport and is prepared to walk in to the valley on foot is welcome to do so.

The public can apply for tickets for the event by email as follows dambustersmemorial@peakdistrict.gov.uk . Once an email has been sent the following acknowledgement message will be sent: “Thank you for your request for a Car Park Pass to the Dambusters Memorial Event on the 16 May 2008 in the Upper Derwent Valley. We have to restrict vehicular access to the valley for this event due to safety considerations. The road into the Valley will be closed and police will strictly enforce parking restrictions on adjoining roads. In the event of over subscription for passes, your name will be entered into a ballot and drawn ‘blind’ to ensure fairness. Please note that you will only be contacted again if you are successful. Thank you again for your interest.”‘

Seems to me that some people have been Bl””dy spoiled over the years,
tell you what take it all away, the Spits, Mustangs, the Lanc and the rest for 3 or 4 years, and then tell me how you feel:mad:

Totally agree.

Some people seem to have the wrong atitude when it comes to Duxford, And i am not sure what they really expect.
It looks a pretty good line up to me, And i would be attending if not working, In this day and age it must be getting harder and harder to organise such shows and credit should be given to organisers.

It’s high time we remember we are very lucky to have a place like Duxford and are blessed that collections such as the Fighter Collection, ARCO and Old Flying machine company are based there.
Enjoy it people it may not last forever.

You’re a braver man than me XH 668, but I understand what you say. Just to put it in to perspective though, I said something similar to an Ozzie mate of mine about one of the shows last year and his response was along the lines of “You don’t know how lucky you are in the UK. We’d give our back teeth for a line up like that”. I hope it’s not just the loop, roll and fast run and break routine which must be fun for the pilots but a bit tedious for the public. How about some pyrotechnics and live cannon firing like they did at Wanaka?

It’s true, coming from the Aus scene to your first Flying Legends….
… one of my best weekends ever, couldn’t believe my eyes:)

It looks a good show to me, and of course, we have the fun of looking forward to the prospect of watching the USAF trying to find the place, sorry chaps, we love you really.
Unfortunately, by the time I’ve driven up North to see the Lanc flypast over the Derwent dam, unmissable, I shall have to stay the weekend to sort out a few jobs for my aged mum, I can’t bog off and leave her when I don’t see her that often, so unfortunately, it’s a miss for me, pity.

The last one on the static list caught my eye.

B25 Mitchell Aircraft Restoration Company

Anybody know anything about this aircraft.

Yes – its called ‘Grumpy’ and used to be owned by TFC.
