Singapore Airlines Ltd. (SIA) will end non-stop services to New York’s Newark Airport and Los Angeles, the world’s longest commercial flights, next year because of rising fuel prices and slower demand for intercontinental trips.

Yep…they are guzzlers. Even Emirates is having issues getting rid of their 345s.

Shame about the A340-500’s demise on this route.
They don’t seem to be popular anywhere any more, given, I presume, their four-engined drinking habit. They are beautiful-looking aircraft.

Airbus have announced a sale of more A380s and A350, they be buying back the A350 as part of the bargain. How long that takes is another question.

Does SIA fly the A380 from SIN-LAX? I got the impression from the article that it is only the Business Class only A340-500 direct flights that are stopping?

What does the future hold for Singapore’s fleet of A340-500s then. What other routes do these jets operate on?
Steve.

They used A340-500s.

Wasn’t an A340-600 used on these routes given its ultra-long-range capability?

I can understand the Newark cut… but LA? 😮 Were the loads really that bad on the A380 that the route deserved a complete cut rather than a capacity downgrade?
I suspect they’ll be back, those 40 A350s have to go somewhere 😉 …or will all those A350s be flying from Europe to Australia? :diablo:
