Hi all,
Wondering if anybody can help.
Regarding 65 Sq codes around January 1943, would anybody have an idea as to what colour they might have been?
Serial numbers and letters would have been Black I know but size wise………Answers on the back of a stamp please.
Ta.

Photos, in 1941 (IIa,) and 1945 (XVI,) in “Fighter Squadrons of the RAF,” show 24″ codes, so it should be a fair bet they continued through the war.

Hello all,
No pictures of the aircraft exist to my knowledge so it will be a very much hit and miss project.
Just thought though that I suppose any picture found of a 65 Sq Spit around 1943 should be of help.
Once again, my thanks to all for your help.

Standard fighter dimensions were 24″ high, 12″ wide, 3″ apart, and brushstrokes 3″ wide; however, due to the lack of space between the bottom of the opened canopy and the top of the wingroot fillet, Spitfire Squadrons had a special dispensation to use letters 20″ high. Some Squadrons did, some didn’t, so photographs are really preferable, to be absolutely certain.
