I think they were just cleaning off some bird$hit that was going to be a potential viewing problem during flight.

Now there is a flight crew that care about the state of their equipment! Surely KLM have some official Squeegee dude?!?!
I think BA have a small team that go around checking windscreens and cleaning them while the aicraft are on stand.
