” A major pre-dawn attack by Tamil Tiger rebels has closed Sri Lanka’s only international airport, leaving at least 12 people dead. Huge clouds of smoke could be seen after mortars were fired at the airport and adjoining military base, 30km (18 miles) north of the capital, Colombo.
