St. Maarten.

Got an assortment of photos from St. Maarten.

We do periodic maintenance on the machine right next to the treshold of Rwy 09. I have to say..it is VERY hard to concentrate on doing compression checks and valve clearing when this is going on right beside us!!!

Touchdown!!!

European 747. We used to have Corsair flying in here…now this. Still using Corsair callsign…..anyone out there that can fill me in??
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v381/HeliKen/PICT1488.jpg

Don’t see a 747 without winglets much down here..what series is this?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v381/HeliKen/PICT1490.jpg

Anyone spot the mismatched parts??
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v381/HeliKen/PICT1481.jpg

Anyone remember the thread about why airliners are painted white?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v381/HeliKen/PICT1502.jpg

I flew as “co-pilot” (they fly single pilot during day VFR conditions) in a BN-2 Islander for the local airline. Great fun!!

Lining up on RWY09…now heres a different view of Sunset Beach!!

Landing in St. Barths. Nice hill at the end of the runway.

Taking off from St. Barths.

A wheel…fascinating…I don’t see one of those everyday. Picture from the approach into St. Eustatius. Looks like a good place for some snorkeling.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v381/HeliKen/PICT1530.jpg

And finally back doing my thing….we were off searching for a missing person. Had to stop at this terrible terrible place to refuel from cans and eat our lunch before continuing the search.

wow…that 757 turned out to be HUGE!!
how come some of my pictures are large and some normal??

I don’t know, but all the files from my digital turn out huge, as well. Can I change the settings on the camera itself?

Yeah, they ditched their 743’s shortly after August of ’03. They even started sending their MD11’s for a little while before putting the 744 on the route.

Heres a photo of one example of the current KLM fleet…you will have to look long and hard for a more fitting registration on any type of airplane…

Nice Helican! I have fond memories of said table as well as said Burger, doing the same thing. The aforementioned Royal Island Club La Plage is the white hotel in the background of the twin otter photo, as well as the one directly under the KLM tale, below. Great location!

Getting back to the 747’s we were talking about, here are the classics that were flying there at the time I visited. No 744’s had started as of yet, just the AF A340.

If you liked the burgers at Maho…you should try the burgers and gyros at Marty’s Gyro…in Simpson Bay…the best on the island!!!
We sound the siren twice when we fly over on approach for landing..then Marty will have 2 cheeseburgers, medium well with garlic and fries ready in 20min…..GREAT setup!!

Ok..I’m off

Fly safe
Ken

Shoot, I probably drove by it countless times when I was there. Had I known, I surely would have made an appearance. I have no doubt that the burgers are good, but the gyros? There’s nothing like a gyro at any mama-papa joint anywhere in Greece. The best are probably one of the places near Monastiraki, and not too far from Plaka, I can’t remember the name. Exit the Monastiraki station and go straight across the square, and it’s right across from Tony’s Kebab’s (very famous for Kebab’s, not gyros). But I digress again…..

Back to SXM, I actually have a reservation at the Royal Islander Club La Plage for this summer from Aug. 21-28, which is that hotel you see in most every approach shot in the background. The wife wants to stay in Greece longer to visit her parents, so I’m either going to have to cancel it or go on my own. Such tough decisions.
