I don’t know the MTOW here, but I can try to find out.

Using generalised very conservative flight manual aircraft performance based on that runway length in a C4 engined A340-300 you would have to reduce your take off weight from 262 tonnes to 245 tonnes. Now if we had airfield specific performance charts that figure would increase however local topography (I don’t know the lay out of surrounding obstacles in the local net take off flight path) may cause the weight to come down again.

In reality you’d fill up with payload and take enough fuel to go somewhere with a longer runway to top up and head home. This is what happens sometimes with Skiathos-Thessaloniki, Zakinthos-Keffalonia, etc.

That would ruin someone’s no claims bonus alright. 😀

Assuming you got across the deep road cutting just to the west of Luton, think you would end up in the Vauxhall staff car park…..Aer Turas did it with a DC7 http://aviation-safety.net/database/1974/740303-0.htm – the report seems to suggest 08 though, I always thought it was 26.

Now if you want to talk about potentially exciting over-runs, no need to look further than the UK…..14 at LBA, 27 at BRS, 26 at LTN (down the hill into Vauxhalls!)

That would ruin someone’s no claims bonus alright. 😀

There’s just one thing missing – undershoot zero!

Very true, but any form of runway over-run would probably be highly survivable as the machine (and contents) would end up in shallow water – a greater chance of drowning than asphyxiation.

I would also add nearby St Bathélémy airport to this one… Also a beauty, and most dangerous to land on 🙂
