A friend of mine and I are planning a trip to St Marteen (SXM) for February next year (2008!) to celebrate my friends 21st birthday.
I know it is probably too early to begin planning things at this stage, but I was wondering if any fellow forum members can offer any advice in terms of…
1) accomodation
2) the airlines that fly there
3) best routing – as I know there are no direct flights from UK!
4) any other attractions/’must-do’s!’ – besides plane spotting on the beach!
If it is of any help, I was thinking I might incorporate a few days in New York – as I have never been there either!
Any help would be much appreciated, many thanks in advance!

bmi to antigua from MAN can be booked for 350 or so sometimes if you’re lucky, then LIAT or Caribean Star on to St Maarten for around 40 quid.

As an example, the absolute cheapest midweek departure next February is currently coming up at £571.20 return. That’s with Air France on 6th February, returning on 13th February. If you want a stop in New York, the cheapest available fare at the moment is £646.00 return, that’s Virgin Atlantic to JFK and then American onwards to Saint Maarten.

Me and two friends are going in May, we booked with KLM via Amsterdam staying at the Maho Sonesta right next to the beach. The price was pretty good but we’ll be at the airport nearly everday which you don’t want to do…
For the airlines that fly there you have;
US Airways, KLM, Air France, Continental, American and United (year round ones) You could always go via Antigua or somewhere around there and travel with one of the regional carriers. You could also use Corsair or Zoom but there not year round, plus Zoom you’d have to go via Toronto, I think.
When we looked with the US carriers the flight times were not great, US wanted us to stay overnight in Charlotte, which we decided we didn’t want too.
As for things to do, im not really sure as i’ve never been but on one of the days were there we will be visiting St Barthermly (spelling) which is a 15 minute plane ride on Winair. These flights are about £60 or so…

Since you also want to go to NYC, why not take Continental to EWR and then onwards to SXM?

2. American, KLM, Corsair, US Airways, United, Air France etc.
3. You could try going via AMS.
