I was just looking at some youtube footage of the recently completed Yak-3 F-AZLY, and it got me wondering -just how many of these Yak-3/Yak-9 ‘reproductions’ are airworthy now? In Europe I can think of atleast three in Germany, two in France and a P&W powered example in Holland. I’ve heard there are a number in NZ, South Africa, Oz and ofcourse the US. Is there anyone who has a rough census on these repro’s and racers?
Sorry about the slightly flippant thread title, I couldn’t resist…

Don’t forget the Dutch Yak-3U RA-3482K… This one flies quite frequently here on the main land…
Cheers,

Amazing. Especially when I think that I can remember when G-AYAK was an exotic rarity!

VH-YZK is still currently subject to a ‘tug o war’ between Steve Hart and the Australian Tax Office AFAIK. Don’t expect a resolution to that one any time soon…..

Here is another Yak conversion I’ve been somewhat intrigued by. It is supposed to be a Yak-7UTI, but there is something amiss with the shape. If you ask me it looks like it had an encounter with Mike Tyson who gave the aircraft a slightly more bulbous nose. The drawing shows how sleek the original Yak was. Does anyone here know any more about the plane and its construction? I think it was built by a guy named Bob Day of Michigan.

John did about 10 Yak3 reproductions, some are flying (2 in france are flying now, but we have 3 of them total in the country), and some are just nearly finished and/or in private places and non flying .
The ones in france are now accumulating many hours and their owners are happy as we didn’t hear they wanted to get rid of their toys !!!

F-AZOS
Currently not registered as per DGAC site. Likely a reserved registration. No photograph of aircraft available by googling. I have been told that Mr Delimboeuf want to keep all info private. (Location of aircraft)
I learned from a French forum that the plane was converted by Garric.

Just how many Yak-3 a/c has Jean Garric made? I remember seeing an article detailing two Yak-11s he rebuilt with an Allison up front (White 4 & 6 I think), but from the list here it appears he’s made a lot more. Or are there some typo’s lurking around?
170406 N33UA Tulsa Warbirds Garric Yak-3 R Tulsa,OK
171729 Allison Yves Jean-Marie Garric Garric Yak-3 R Weslaco,TX
172612 Allison F-AZOS Jean-Marie Delimboeuf Garric Yak-9R
172809 Allison N3UA Yves Jean-Marie Garric Garric Yak-3 R Harlingen,TX
172890 Allison F-AZLY Amicale des Avions de Collection et de Sport Rouen Garric Yak-3 R
Y337 Allison F-AZXZ George Chauveau Garric Yak-3 R Coulommiers ex337?
One question here is when was F-AZOS rebuilt as an Allison powered example? I remember this a/c (as N9YK) when owned by Don Talley and displayed at Breckenridge. It sure had a round motor then. See photo:

I’ve added BTZE to the list, quite a comprehensive list and interesting to note that BZMY is only two “down the line” so to speak.

Thanks very much aerovet, that’s just the kind of thing I’ve been looking for! It makes you realise just how many have had P&W conversions.

It shows D-FYAK during the very, very wet ILA 2004
