This question is directed at those at the thick end of the preservation movement, how much does your airfield charge you for storage/pan space?
Does £143.00 per day sound expensive to you???

I’ll make some enquiries tomorrow, I may be able to help. Can you PM with details of who you spoke to last?

To coin a phase from one of your previous posts from a different thread: “They’ don’t really want it off site. The new MD is very keen to see historic aviation on site”, umm.
£6.80 per ton, a stripped down Bucc weighs in at a gnats todger over 10 tons, when I went to school 10 x 6.80 equates to £68.00.
I want the Bucc there even less than those in command at the Airport and it is not as though we are not trying to move it, it will be a jubliant day when she arrives at her new home.

£6.80 per tonne
That’s about the going rate…not to mention the 5 years plus of free parking the aeroplane and it’s former GAC stablemates have had!!!
Trust me, there really is no ‘redundant’ hardstanding and your present location is urgently required for the maintenance company directly opposite who are expanding their business rapidly.

Get the message boys, they dont want you there!
Dont get me wrong I like Buccs indeed, I spent holidays at Lossiemounth lying under the main runway. Hope you find a caring home for it where you are welcome.
We get the message alright, but with our hands tied by the authorities as to when we can move it, their is not a lot we can do, I have suggested that we fold the wings and move it onto a redundant area (not the poxy grass again!!!), but this was met by “their is no redundant area”.
The aircraft does have a home to go to and a 12 strong volunteer force ready to get to work on its restoration, as a well known catch phase from a tv advert says “The Futures Bright, The Futures PINK!!!”

Yeah… bring it up to Liverpool. We won’t charge you a penny 🙂
Seriously, what robert says is true – at £143 per day they are telling you to move.
Roy.

1) £143 a day really means – get it off our airfield, we dont want it there. We dont like it, or we dont like you, or we want the space for something else and you are in the way. Its not a charge anyone is realistically going to charge on a “real” basis.
2) My understanding is that Traffic police have to attend to higher priorities if they come along. A load waiting to move is not a priority from their point of view as it is not causing a problem. However if the Royal Family etc need an escort they may have a high priority!
3) If a Museum gets a new exhibit like a Concorde they can tell people who have lent them unique aircraft like a monarch to remove it ASAP. Then a few months later take on a One Eleven and a Viscount that are a bit bigger than the aircraft leaving. Logical or not?

We have friends with a low loader but keep hitting the brick wall when it comes to the local Police for the over sized transport order & escort.
So far, we have had 4 failed move attempts, one with less than twenty four hours to go, due to the various reason which have never been explained, these 4 attempts have cost money and with the proposed daily charges of £143, it would not be long before we are forced to fold the Society through a lack of funds. 😡 😡 😡
Most definitely a bit of a problem, we had our share of problems moving ‘XV361’, the odd overhanging tree comes to mind but luckily the police were not one of them. On the day of the big move we had several police cars and a number of motor cycle officers closing off roads as necessary for our stately progress.
We certainly stopped the traffic.

Buccsociety – It might be worth speaking to a friend of mine. The police do not have to escort loads . The legislation was changed a couple of years ago and it is possible for companies to do their own escorts if they are equiped with the right equipment. Some of the decision rests with the Police but often they are more than willing to let someone else have the hastle. What width are you talking?

Sounds like you need some friends with a low loader !

Yes it sounds alot, makes me realise how lucky we have been over the last 18 years with two Lightnings and all the security at Brunty.

Yes, it sounds a hell of a lot. I pay a lot, lot less for indoor hangarage of an aircraft rather bigger than a Buccaneer at a well known SE airfield.
I have other aircraft stored at non airfield locations on behalf of clients for even less.

I know to keep a light aircraft on a well known airfield back in the early 90s was around 200 250 a month

If it is for a Bucc stuck in some otherwise unused corner of some windy airfield, then I think a charge like that is a bit unfriendly!

Depends were it is ? For a Gulfstream V at Heathrow probably not !
