I read in yesterday’s Telegraph that Stanley Hiller the helicopter pioneer had died at the age of 81.
It brought a lump to my throat as I remember the Hiller 360 in the late 1950’s/early 1960’s when it was used for crop spraying by Fison Airwork and was used extensively throughout the UK.
I had not realised, until I read the obituary, that the Hiller 360 was the first helicopter to fly coast to coast in the States in 1949.
