Quite an eventful afternoon down here at STN, but not many photos I’m afraid, due to very poor weather and a freezing photographer! I was very lucky though, as I turned up a Suadi Arabian SP was on the runway (HZ-AIF). This was followed (as can be seen in the pics) by the Martinair Cargo MD-11 in the poppy cs. This, was then followed by an Egypt Air Cargo A300! All within about 10 minutes of each other! I also saw nearly all of the new livery Ryanair aircraft, including the couple that have only just been delivered this month. This included EI-DAN, DAP, DAO, DAS, DAX, DAW, DAY, DAZ and DCB! Not many left, then I would have seen the whole Ryanair fleet AGAIN (For the past year or so I had seen every Ryanair aircraft, but these new ones make it a bit more interesting). Also saw FedEx MD-11 N608FE, and G-RUNG. When I saw it, it rang a bell (haha no pun intended) and then I remembered I had seen Kev’s pic on here yesterday of it at EMA 😉
First up is this AFX 747, G-INTL. This aircraft is currently grounded, as it has been for the past year, with undercarriage problems. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s scrapped sometime soon.

That is exactly what I thought! When I got there it would be just Ryanair and Easyjet. I certainly didn’t expect to see a DC8! 🙂

Thanks for the comment Michael. Yep I think that’s the idea that a lot of people get when Stansted is mentioned! As you can see from that list though, a very large majority of the aircraft are Ryanair, but there are still a fair few others to break them up and make it more interesting.

My Aunty and Uncle and cousins now live in a tiny village called Albury, you have probably heard of it. The aircraft on approach and departing Stansted fly right over their house! We ate out at an Indian restaurant in Stortford one night. Can’t remember what it was called Shirona or something?? you may know!
I was at Stansted late afternoon, going by you’r age I don’t think you were there, I’m 16 by the way.
I guess it must have been the MD11 I saw taking off when I was coming back from Duxford! 🙂
I can thank your local for allowing me to see my first MD11 and DC8! 🙂 when I flew in.
Flew in on 13th out on 17th on Easyjet. The terminal building, I have to say is very impressive! 🙂
It won’t be the last time I’m down, I expect I’ll be down in the summer!
I’m glad you like it! I may be biased as it is the airport I’ve grown up around, and is less than 5 miles down the road, but I think that the terminal is one of the best around. I think the Indian restaurant you are talking about is Shadona’s, which is literally about 2-3 mins on foot from my house! I was there the other weekend for a friend’s birthday. And yes I know Albury aswell, I have been on may bike rides through the surrounding woods and the Hadham’s.

How come you were down here? Flying? Spotting?

Thanks for the comments everyone. LBARULES, no I didn’t see either of those aircraft this time, but I can almost guarantee you that even half a days spotting will come up with every aircraft in the Ryanair fleet, aside from maybe one or two that could be in a hangar somewhere. If you were there for half a day, you would see most of them twice aswell!
Greekdude, that SP actually belongs to Saudi Arabian Airlines, and not the royal flight. However, it may be flying for the Royal Flight as the only other Saudi Arabian aircraft I’ve seen at Stansted have been the royal one, such as the Tristar and MD-11’s.
By: greekdude1 - 18th February 2004 at 03:35
Isn’t that Saudi SP a VIP aircraft?
By: EAL_KING - 18th February 2004 at 00:23
kool pics dan well done 😀 i really like the saudi 747sp
By: LBARULES - 17th February 2004 at 14:11
Brilliant shots as ever Dan. Im gonna have to come to STN one day and see the entire Ryanair fleet! Did you see EI-CJE or EI-CNX?

Ok well as I said, when I next speak to you over msn I can send you some maps and stuff. Because really, you do not want to go trekking around Stansted without knowing where to go! It’s a bloody nightmare, and so is the security. There are a few things I’ve picked up over the years about things you are and aren’t allowed to do, but i’ll go over them with you, otherwise you could find yourself sitting in the police station of my home town, which according to my cousins isn’t very nice! 😉

If you are at the terminal, views are fairly limited until you actually go through security, and I think all that time would start to get a bit boring! I’m afraid that I’ll just be arriving in the tropical island of Borneo when you come down this way, and so I will not be able to meet you 😉
If you are planning on doing some proper spotting away from the terminal, I can guide you to several places. Aslong as you don’t mind a bit of a trek though, as it is likely to take you in the region of an hour each way to get anywhere near the approaches. If you do want to do this then I can send you some maps and things over msn to show you where to go, but it’ll still be a bit of a nightmare for you! Traffic wise, you shouldn’t get too bored at first, but the Ryanair’s to get a bit tedious when you start to see the same ones as you did 2 hours before (rather like the BA Buses at Heathrow). Other than those 3 different aircraft I was lucky enough to see yesterday, there wasn’t much else interesting to see other than the usual FedEx’s, a Streamline avaition Shorts 360, and one or two private jets.
However, other days can be a lot better, and May will be in the Summer season so there will be more to see. 2 and a half hours spotting last June at Stansted produced the follwoing aircraft:
Norwegian Air Shuttle 737-300
Saudi Arabian MD-11
Mid East Jet 757
Saudi Arabian SP
MK Airlines DC-8
FedEX mD-11
2 X European 737-200
TNT A300
Asiana Cargo 747-400F
Titan 737-300
CSA 737-500
Balkan Holidays Tu-154M
Euroskylink Piaggio Avanti
BAe Systems BAe-125
Aurigny Saab 340
Air Berlin 146
BA 146Well they were the interesting aircraft, which makes it seem a bit quiet for 2 and a half hours worth of spotting, aye? Well take those aircraft, and then mix all these in between them all:
11 X Easyjet 737
11 X Ryanair 737-800’s
2 X Ryanair 146’s (Buzz cs)
4 X Ryanair 737-300’s (Hybrid cs)
9 X Ryanair 737-200’s
Dammit, for a student you get around a bit!
NEver mind about the meeting. Tis a shame.
I am planning to leave the airport facility. With 9 hours to waste it would be daft not too.
Thanks for the info!

Excellent Pics
I’ll be in Stansted all day in May (the 8th to be precise).
What kinda traffic can I expect at the airport?
I’m accompanying my grandmother who doesn’t speak a word of english. Once I get her onto an Air Berlin flight to Hanover (around 12noon), I’m free to do some spotting 😉
I’m arriving at around 08:30 with EZY and leaving around 21:30 with EZY.
Atleast, thats whats planned. Need to book the flights. Which should happen this week

Thanks for the comments Skylinerworld and Andy. And no I don’t know why pp is down, probably just a server problem.

And finally, is another Ryanair in the new livery. But this time, it’s my name-sake! EI-DAN. And this is also the aircraft I flew back from PIK on in December, and got to sit in the cockpit.
