Stansted Yesterday Evening

3 pics from a 15 minute stop off at STN on the way home from a very disappointing day out spotting at Military bases – I’m not happy with these at all, I managed 15 photos all day long and they were all rather disappointing. Landing on 05…

Quite possibly EI-CSO once again

As I say – disappointing that these were the best I could manage. Didn’t see a single plane move at 4 military bases (Wittering, Cottesmore, Lakenheath and Mildenhall!) – just one of those days!

Right, the place where i went to get those is only accecible really if you have a bike or if you are on foot, not because it is difficult to access but because there is no where to park a car. The only other place under the approach is a bit too far from the runway and you are not above it, unlike from where my photos were taken. The place where mine are from is at the bottom of RWY 05, near to the dual carriageway that leads you to the terminal. If you go to the long stay carpark and from the entrance turn right, take the left on the roundabout infront of you and you are already under the approach, and then by stepping up the bank it leaves you with a good spot to take photos. However, as mentioned before you can’t realy get there that easily if you have car. If the planes are on 05, and you don’t mind paying to use the short stay carpark, then there is an alternative to get there. All you do is go to the terminal and park your car in the short stay carpark, then jump on the pink elephant bus from outside the terminal to the long carpark. Then as mentioned before, just turn right from the entrance to the carpark and at the next roundabout, go left and walk up onto the bank alongside the road. Try not to touch the fence though because you will get airport security on ya. That is all I can think of. The only other places are alongside the runway.

Nice stuff. Where abouts do you go to get them just above the runway?

MyTravel A320. Note the little bird flying just infront of the plane.

Ryanair 737-800 seconds from touchdown. See the amount of vapour over the wings!

I now have a few stansted pictures from the wintertime. Please be warned that the picture quality is very poor due to it only being a still taken from my digital video camera. I’m certainly not trying to show them off as they are no way near as good as any of yours, but what the hell.

Ryanair 737-800 landing with condensation forming over the wings.

Yeah if you’re going to go down there at the weekend watch out for the wind direction as it has been changing a lot recently. Youmay find yourself having to go from one place to the next if the runway direction changes. For example, Sunday morning and afternoon they were on 23, sunday evening 05, monday morning 23, monday afternoon to tuesday midday 05 and then for the rest of today they have been on 23.

Yeh – it was labour day in the US. Trying these two was an act of desperation, we intended to go to Cottesmore, but we stayed for 2 hours and saw nothing move. Only 5 planes were out on the line. Not a good sign. Wittering was dead aswell, and a guy I was chatting to there said Waddington was also very quiet.

Nice pics. I was in the area of both Mildenhall and Lakenheath in my work yesterday and like you saw nothing move, a local resident told me that yesterday was a national holiday in the US. That usually explains lack of activity at these two bases. Although I did see a KC135 land at Mildenhall at around 1230.

I’m hoping to get an hour or two there at the weekend.

It’s a shame you didn’t get to see anything all that interesting. I still really like the 146’s though, especially the bright scheme. Great pics, lucky for you the forum will let you post them, inlike some of us.

Nice pics again, I must get myself a little chunk of cyberspace to show off my digital efforts if the camera ever arrives.
