Hi,
This is a first post, so apologies if this thread has already been raised (although I couldn’t see it).
Via the “Telegraph” –
Quote – “Squadron Leader ‘Stapme’ Stapleton, who has died aged 89. Tall, blond and sporting a splendid handlebar moustache, Stapleton was the epitome of the dashing fighter pilot.”
Enough said.
The last time I saw Gerald was down at a Shoreham Aircraft Museum (Kent)book signing event in support of Geoff Nutkins BofB memorial project a couple of years ago. He was on “top form” and was wearing a rather smart tie. Upon looking closer, I saw it was covered in images of topless women.
Gerald was the pilot who managed to “bag” Oblt Franz Von Werra (the one who got away) and who crash landed at Love’s Farm, Marden, Kent.
RIP Gerald (he hated being called Stapme).
