Just back from seeing the new loooooooooooong awaited Star Trek movie.
Absolutely Awesome what a fantastic movie. What stood out most for this lifelong Trekkie was how the cast have emulated the original cast so well, mannerisms, looks etc….
Highly recommend going to see this even if not a Trekkie! The film is just brilliant. 200/10:D:D:D:D

Just one sad note, Shatners response was to set the dogs on Collins, it didn’t do Kirk any favours.
Shatnerquake
Product Description
It’s Shatner VS Shatners!
William Shatner? William Shatner. WILLIAM SHATNER!!! It’s the first ShatnerCon with William Shatner as the guest of honor! But after a failed terrorist attack by Campbellians, a crazy terrorist cult that worships Bruce Campbell, all of the characters ever played by William Shatner are suddenly sucked into our world. Their mission: hunt down and destroy the real William Shatner.
Featuring: Captain Kirk, TJ ++!*!+, Denny Crane, Rescue 911 Shatner, Singer Shatner, Shakespearean Shatner, Twilight Zone Shatner, Cartoon Kirk, Esperanto Shatner, Priceline Shatner, SNL Shatner, and – of course – William Shatner!
No costumed con-goer will be spared in their wave of destruction, no redshirt will make it out alive, and not even the Klingons will be able to stand up to a deranged Captain Kirk with a lightsaber. But these Shatner-clones are about to learn a hard lesson…that the real William Shatner doesn’t take crap from anybody. Not even himself.
“It’s like Die Hard, but instead of Bruce Willis fighting terrorists it’s William Shatner fighting other versions of himself…
It’s Shatnertastic!

The original series now sits on the Sci-Fi channel, with the remastered copies showing on Sci-Fi HD. Its 4:3 aspect on the HD channel but tends to be on every day IIRC.
DS-9, TNG, Voyager and Enterprise all now on Virgin TV which you get on freeview (you may need to retune the box as its only been there since mid May)
The movies were being cycled on Sky movies at the time of release of the new film.

For those of us with terrestrial or digi television, we have been treated to repeats of all the various Star Trek off shoots, but not the original series. Once apon a time it was often repeated on BBC2, but not anymore, I haven’t seen any of them for a while. I’m assuming that the nice Mr Murdoch has realised the potential with the new film and secured the exclusive rights for Sky. That raises the question as to whether it includes the films with the original cast, or the spin offs, such as ‘Generations’ or the Next Generation episode that cleverly manipulated one of the old programmes.
Did William Shatner originally secure the rights to any episodes or films that featured himself and got a large monetary deal out of Sky to give them exclusivity, does anyone know.

I heard Majel Roddenberry was suppose to do the voice of the computer in the new Star Trek movie but then she passed so either she never had the chance or she wasn’t able to complete her work and they dropped her entirely.

Nurse Chappel is no longer – play by Majel Barrett who was Mrs Gene Roddenbury. She also provided the voices for many of the computers in the Orginal, Next Generation, DS9 and Voyager series (i think)

How many of the Original crew are still alive today???
I think that the only deceased key characters are ‘Bones’ and ‘Scotty’, and of course, Gene Roddenberry, not sure about some of the aliens though after Kirk got carried away with his photon torpedoes, what exactly were those things, were they used on the General Belgrano.
Lets not forget that Kirk got killed trying to save Jean-Luc from the clutches of Alex and his Droogs in a bit of ‘Ultra Violence’.

Have also seen the film and found it very entertaining. Don’t forget there are a whole generation of people who have not seen the original series and will not be able to compare it to that. Character depiction is pretty good and captures a younger Enterprise crew very well. Who knows it may lead to a rejuvination and more films (2 more planned i think?) The film fills a gap in the Star Trek chronology coming after Enterprise but before the original series where the crew were already well established. Nice touch to have Chris Pike in there as well as this relates to the original series.
Yep, I started watching it before we got a colour telly! Gawd I feel old now.

As a big Trek fan, I can’t wait to see this movie. Great to hear the movie has managed to entertain and satisfy a non-Trekkie like yourself Luke! Though I don’t think I’ve ever heard Spock being called “a bit of a twat” before. That’s a first.
I’m interested to know Buck, did you sense that the movie was intended to allure non-Trek fans? The Star Trek franchise has been struggling in general the past few years with its most recent TV series (Enterprise) canned after only four seasons, and I’m just wondering if they tried too hard to “recruit” new Trek fans with this movie at the expense of leaving the more hardcore fans feeling empty? I guess I’ll know for sure when I see it.

Well, if your a fan of the pukka Star Trek, not the one with the bald bloke, then you will like this movie. It has a lot to live up to, being an introduction to the the great series. It does it very well, very well indeed. The big screen version must be fantastic.

I’m surprised that no-one has mentioned the Channel 4 programme on saturday night when Justin Lee Collins attempted to get as many of the original members of Star Trek back together again one more time.
I thought it was absolutely brilliant, as it won’t have been shown on Australian TV, you can watch it again on the CH4 replay website Steve, or any of you who missed it can, it’s really worth watching.
It was great to see some of the old characters again, I thought that Walter Koenig ( Chekov ) was a really great bloke in particular.
I really don’t know how Collins has the nerve to approach these people in the way that he does, he even managed to get that famous ‘interracial kiss’ out of Uhura. The meeting with Leonard Nimoy was a little more formal, but at least he agreed to do it, in his own house as well, and he came across as a nice bloke, I now know where the Vulcan finger sign comes from, and did you know he keeps his Spock ears in a glass case.
Just one sad note, Shatners response was to set the dogs on Collins, it didn’t do Kirk any favours.
I won’t say anymore, just watch it, you’ll enjoy it if you are a Trekkie fan.

Just seen it this evening….
What can I say? a stunning example of what Hollywood can produce I thought, good script, likeable characters, storyline etc everything. Enjoyed every minute….
A bargain with my Orange wednesdays deal too :D.
Unlike the Fast & The Furious I saw a couple of weeks ago which was unbelievably bad, avoid at all costs.

Not sure if its a remake, then again “re-imagined” is a bit of a naff description. Either way, its 2 hrs of noise, explosions, some very good character acting – its a big Mac for the eyeballs, check your brain in at the door and just let your eyes be entertained. Well worth a few £ on a ticket.

Can never take to any remakes…they’re just never as good as the original in my book!!!

Just been to see it-excellent film, well up to standard.Thought Scotty accent was mince though.Inspirational casting of Leonard Nimoy and nice touch at the end of the film.

Don’t download it. There is some nasty spywares hidden in the Star Trek torrents at the moment, and other files are only playable if you subscribe to a site called Domplayer or similar.

I quite fancy seeing the film, even though I’m not a big Trek fan.

Sylar is fantastic as Spock(or as Leonard Nimoy acting as Spock to be more precise) 😮
